** Your NEA102 build **

Hey Jon, could you do us a favour? Some ammo tests without being super cheap and raiding the equipment room for targets? Those RCMP qualification targets are less than ideal for grouping. I suspect the groups will shrink with a traditional target that has the grid at 1" intervals.

Granted this was one target. But I hope you're happy.

100 meters, 5 rounds, not sure of the load. I was emptying out my ammo cabinet and I'm guessing it was 168 grain, or 178, likely with varget, but who knows! Let's hope I find some more and can pull one apart to check. ;)

Still haven't upgraded the trigger yet. But I've put probably 500 rounds through it so far, at the very least, so it's smoothing out a bit.

Yes I know it's a lucky group..... I found a mag and pulled one apart. It's 168 grain hornady hpbt with 44 grains of varget. I think. Someday I'll try it again.

43-44 Varget is my go to round in either 168 or 175. I had a discussion going previously regarding the background to why/how that round came to be but a couple of guys decided it was "derailing the thread". I was content to let them mess around with their garbage loads after that.

Nice shooting!

Funny thing. I was just going through my cabinet as well and have a bunch of reloads. The 168 rounds from my RFB (traded it on) need to be reloaded since I didn't have a small base resizer at the time and the RFB seems to expand the brass pretty good. The 175 rounds in 43 and 43.4 chambered in a 5R milspec. So at the very least I can use them for the bolt guns. I'll be loading some more up in anticipation of getting a 102!!

It's around 2 oz, I wrote it down when I swapped the handguard but it's escaping me right now. In my opinion it's not worth changing it purely as a weight loss item, you'd have to spend $250 + shipping on the SLR titanium one to save 1 oz. A handguard can drop 10 times that with ease for about the same money, or you could change the muzzle device and save 2 - 3 oz depending what you throw on, and it's at the end of the barrel so it would feel like a little more than that.

I'm looking at adjustable because I think the gun is a bit overgassed and would be a bit softer shooting with one, but I'm not going titanium.

Has anybody weighed the gas block? I don't have my gun yet, but am shopping upgrade parts. Is it worth changing the gas block?

I swapped a 0.875" SLR Ti adjustable from the ATRS SS one on my MH. It saved 18.9g. I was more interested in getting an adjustable gas block though. As someone else said that is $250 for 18.9g!!! You will have much better bang for your buck swapping bigger heavier items first. Like the Handguard, barrel and BCG. Also don't throw a heavy optic & optic mount on it if you are concerned about weight.

With all the stats posted so far, I don't think I've seen the OAL on the 102.
Can anyone pls tell me what it is?

Can confirm the POF Roller Cam pin and the Radian Talon Ambi Safety's both work.

My 102 never had the dent in the upper from the original cam pin cycling like some that I've seen posted here, it was more like a tiny wear spot and it had chewed through something like 550 rounds so far. But the POF roller cam pin definitely makes it cycle smoother and quieter while racking it, whether that equates to any other benefits while firing, I guess we'll see.

The Talon I added because I found my trigger finger contacting the stock safety more than I'd like so I switched to the short throw on that side and the long one on the other. I grip up pretty high so this definitely helped.

Also have the Geissele Maritime Bolt release, I'll post some pics when I get it in there. Ordered it all from Brownells and got $10 off, plus Mail Innovations decided not to charge me customs this time so all in all a pretty good deal.

For the guys looking at SLR Handguards, they do go on sale often. Mine was $50 USD off earlier in September.
