At the rate they are going next year you'll be on gen 4 so it'll be irrelevant, but here is Gen2, yes it sucks, that section of the upper will need to be milled out (tab + picantiny) for an after market handguard to fit.I tried to search through this thread, but is there a pic of the hand guard differences? I have to hold out buying one till next year, but I'd like to know what I'm getting into.
Didn't notice it before but the rail is part of the anti rotation tab as well. Might be easier to 3d print something to fill in the gap or looks like you'll have to trim some of the rail too

For those who might not want to mill the upper, could a notch be milled into the handguard instead?
That might cost more to do than the handguard itself.
Rammy could do it, sure, but the measurements, the solidworks design, the cnc setup, then the run, jesus its gonna cost.

Well Ill split the bill with you brother if I cant find a Gen 1. that way it will hurt less.
You guys must like to f**k around and waste time.

Thats what they used for the Type 81 bolts... lol...

I'm thinking the best way is to make a jig from the rail\tab bulls#$@ and remove that from the handguard. Essentially recreating what NEA did with their gen2 handguard. Then you don't have a gap to worry about and if you fail at least your only out a handguard.
The problem is the aftermarket handguards are slim and nice. lol... Not big and bulky like the NEA so no way there is enough material in place to mill out... lol..
You've seen some of my Bubba work on my T81, just send me your rifle and I'll make your parts fit. I have no problems taking a grinder, files or the dremel to a new rifle if it needs to be "fixed".
Hell it's just an NEA you can do everything it needs done with a hammer![]()
