It looks like this is what service rifle will consist of including the M1A. Maybe the AR-10. So it's off to the gym I guess.

Us ORA guys have already been practicing with Enfields, Garands, Mausers, etc in the vintage CQB matches this year. A lot of fun but also kinda sobering. Scores were way lower than using our regular AR15's.

I wondered about that. How much do you think the scores have dropped 20 - 25 percent or more?

The COF was amended and simpler, buy yeah, at least 25% lower scores. Some shooters scores were probably lower by more than 50%. Keep in mind that we were all new to this and had no practice at all. Still, it was a lot of fun and can be expanded and worked on. I started CQB way back when Tim and Barney invented it. Scores at that time were also a lot lower than in recent years.

Yep.
 
I shot my first post-ban match with a 16" Mossberg MVP in 308. The results were... demoralizing. First, it's an expensive gun to run for a match. Second, using Norc 7.62, the accuracy was less that stellar and the flimsy plastic stock resulted in lots of POI shift. Finally, I had several instances of the trigger binding up where the gun couldn't fire resulting in even more missed rounds.

I don't really care to spend more money to buy another dubious quality semi 223 (wk180, t97, etc) at this point for it wind up placed in legal limbo. Currently mulling over my options.
 
Are you able to run levers in the service rifle comps, for example the 30WCF winchesters from the great wars? Sorry if it's a terrable question, just curious,

I have one but never used it in SR matches. Accuracy is only good out to about 150y. Currently, I don't know of any means of scoping an M1 Carbine. It should be fine for CQB/CQC matches though. Unfortunately, CFB Borden doesn't allow the caliber to be shot, it's not on the approved caliber list. I don't know if other CF bases have the same restrictions.
 
I was thinking in terms of the popular short range CQB or Three Gun matches.
There are scope mounting systems that involve a base replacing the rear sight.

The .30 Carbine cartridge would be a very poor choice for competition at longer ranges.

I've been thinking about this too, I'm interested to know what options people are considering. Would something like a Troy PAR fit the bill?
