Your nicest rifle , maybe wrong cartridge

I shot my very first whitetail deer with a 270...
I am currently loving a 1895 win in 405, great rifle.
These were also chambered in 270, I do not believe they were too successful. A good example of "nice rifle, wrong cartridge"

Nothing wrong with the .270 Winchester really, I just don't like it - however I am not crazy about raw tomatoes either LOL!

This is one of my nicest rifles, chambered in the 300 H&H Magnum, which is great for hunting big game, however, not a pleasure conducting load data at the gun range; kicks a bit. It sure is a pleasure to craddle, while it accompanies me for big game. It will be comforting to have it with me this autumn for bull moose, if I'm drawn.

I once had a well known guild gunsmith build me a faux Rigby Stalker in (shocker of all shockers) 275 Rugby. I deeply regret that chambering choice now after finding out it was inferior on the internet.

In retrospect, I think a 243 WSSM would have been a better choice.

My Winchester Model '98 in .32 Win Special. Nice round with a bit more oomph than .30-30, but apparently out of production and none in stock ANYWHERE aside from gunshows at $4 per round! Big mistake but an otherwise beautiful carbine priced right at $900. ...

I have hunted deer for 60 years, and killed close to 1 / yr. A few years ago
I realized smaller cal., in my favoroute rifles killed deer just as good within traditional
distances ( 200 yds. with a max, of 300 yd if all things are perfect). My 99 Savage
now in .250-3000. My Browning BLR in .243. My Win. 94 now in .25-35.
I also plan to use My Win. 92 in .38-40.

The 32 Special is excellent. Brass is easy and bullets are available. My '57 is the most accurate open sighted rifle I've ever shot.

If it's the wrong cartridge, it's the wrong rifle. Rebarrel/rechamber or sell and move on.

well I would like to help but this is what others say

There's a stunner, Buckmastr!

Duncan, think someone would trade with ya or do you just like the long action better?

I picked up a beautiful cz550 that was worked over by AHR (American hunting rifles) from another member here. The stock is beautiful and the shape is so much nicer than the OEM 2x6. It's chambered in 375 H&H and I think it would be the perfect rifle if it were in 9.3x62.
I doubt I'll ever hunt Africa, and I don't use it out here because it's overkill, but I can't really bring myself to get rid of it. I might consider using it if I ever get drawn for Island elk (12 years and counting) and the weather is nice.

Can't go wrong with the .275 Rigby(7x57). A classic.
