Your nicest rifle , maybe wrong cartridge

This New Haven Supergrade would be better in a 270 Winchester.

Awesome rifle!

Now that I think of it, I wish my Super Grade had been in .270 Winchester, too.

What caliber is yours in?

I've got a Cabella's 50th Anniversary 1 of 500 Supergrade Featherweight in .270 Win. Sometimes I wish it was a different caliber, not because there's anything wrong with the .270, just that I have several of them plus the WSM and Weatherby angles covered. I've literally never taken it hunting, and I've got better range guns.

That one’s a 338 win mag with a 26” barrel. I took it to Africa and it hasn’t been out of the cabinet since.

It would be hard to let that one go; what with it's back-story and all. Or maybe not; some guys are more sentimental than others. I've sold three rifles that I've taken to Africa. One had been there twice, and Argentina and Australia. Funny part is I ended up buying it back again and its been sitting in the cabinet ever since.

Nice rifle, Buckmastr! I don't blame you for leaving it in the cabinet...........I can feel the pain of shooting it, ouch!

Is it really that bad? In a 9.5lb rifle?

Yes, Chuck, for me it is. I'll be 66 years old this year, I don't pay for the pain program. I'll leave those big magnums for the younger boys. A month ago I shot our 300 Weatherby mag at the range, it was a reminder to leave it alone.;)

I tend to be more concerned with other things besides the cartridge a rifle is chambered for, within reason. Then again, I am pretty mainstream in my choices, 270/280/30-06 all do about the same job in the end!

I like to see American cartridges in American rifles, whereas the Euro guns should be in Euro cartridges.

I wouldn't put a 358 Winchester or 35 Whelen on a 98 Mauser. It would have to be a 9.3x57 or 9.3x62.

You're choices are most sound, hunters need not to go lesser or larger of these three cartridges. It's humerous how the 7x57 Mauser is so popular, whereas; the 280 Remington offers much more.

are we all wishing for a diff cartridge because of recoil , or weight , as we age ?
less recoil and no blasting the ears , to get it ? in that perfect rifle
really should be easy ya'd think
Love the 280 ..maybe best cartridge on the planet (ai)

No on my issue, i just don't like the 270 and don't need a reason to.
I like the various 6.5's and the .284 cartridges , just don't cotton to the various 277's.

You palma critters are just a different breed to start with. Crawling around on the ground in bondage type leather outfits. That’s no place for a classic like the 270 Winchester anyways.
