Your Ol Faithful?

This 1981 Remington 700 BDL in 30'06 is my favourite...

Bought it at a gun show here in Cranbrook for about $500.00 many years ago,

deadly accurate with either of the half a dozen or so loads I've worked up for it.

Currently shooting a 165 grain Accubond with 63 grains of RL22.

Feels great and looks great!

When I'm hunting alone with this rifle, I never really feel alone, it's my true hunting buddy.

It’s been flawless for me, though it hasn’t been in the field much compared to some here. I enjoy seeing the rifles twice my age or more still out in the field, and particularly the ones with family histories behind them. I’m the first hunter in my family, so I’m starting from scratch and hoping my daughters keep it going.

It is interesting. I have a few with family history but they have some sentimental value to me so I tend to reach for the Sako. I suppose more often than not though it is for bear protection and that 20" barrel is just so handy. I'm trying to get my girls interested too but it is a loosing battle so far. Starting them off with bows for fun but hoping they at least take to upland game. Nothing quite like seeing the family pet in his element.

What a beauty!

Mine are a pair of custom Model 70’s in 7MM Mashburn and 30-06.

Ok I’m envious left hand model 70’s I could be happy with either caliber .

18.5" Ruger Scout. Stainless w/ laminate stock. Taken 3 deer and a moose in the last 2 years. Been strongly considering switching to a Tikka T3x Hunter, just for something new since the Stag-10 I (hypothetically) bought with my income tax cheque is now a goddamn paper weight.

I have two that I switch between, neither is very old though, but when I go out it’s one of them that’s over my shoulder.

1. Savage 10 scout in 308 win, 2-7 vortex crossfire scout scope / peep irons. Shoots my 150 sst handloads at 2880 and scary accurate (1.5” groups are fairly normal at 320 yards). Everything I have shot with it has dropped on the spot, gotta like that. Also has a magic trick of making gophers disappear (110 vmax handloads).

2. Browning X bolt micro composite in 6.5 creedmoor, vortex diamondback hp 4-16 scope. Shoots my 143 eldx handloads at 2670 and is also scary accurate. I saw some browning micro love from some other posts, gotta love the handiness of the micro’s, plus as was also mentioned, the short bolt throw and the tang safety! I’m considering chopping my barrel from 20” down to 18.5”. If I do that I don’t think any of my other rifles will see the light of day during hunting season, haha!

Both work well for shooting deer / other critters at my typical ranges, anywhere from 8 to 175 yards.

My Lee Enfield No.4 Mk.2, all intact with an old made-in-U.S.A. out of steel Weaver K3 with post-and-crosshair in a Cad-Technik mount.

I have had many very good rifles. One that stands out is my T3 CTR in 308. Very reliable, same POI day in day out over a few years. Practice out to 800m and take deer to a bit over 400m.

For shorter range stuff I have my Mauser 1909 Argentino. Also in 308 with 3-12 flash dot S&B Zenith. Fed from five or ten shot aics type mags, ultra reliable smooth feeding. I spent a lot of time building this rifle and carbon stock. Fitted with Lothar Walther barrel. Most of my guests get to use this rifle.

Wow.... now i wanna be your guest...

I have two rifles that are tied, only the weather decides which one goes out... a Ruger M77 Mark II Frontier .358 Stainless/Laminate and a Ruger M77 Mark II RLS Carbine
Blued/Walnut .358. Both very accurate out to 300 yards, but have a dead on hold from zero to 200 yards, where 95% of my shots are taken. I am heading North for bears on Sunday and they are both coming along. I have only had these two for a couple years, but have taken half a dozen deer and bears with them, but what I appreciate most, is their compactness, wieldiness and incredibly consistent accuracy.

I’m glad I’m not the only one with duplicates in action and caliber that are only slightly different, haha. I love my two x bolts in 6.5 creedmoor, one is a hells canyon speed (my open country / bad weather rifle), the other is a micro composite (my dense cover rifle). I too love compact rifles, that’s why my longer rifles mostly live in the safe.

Those two Rugers are beauties!

My "go to/ideal" hunting rifle is my ruger Hawkeye compact magnum in 300rcm. I added a McMillan stock and topped it with a Burris signature safari 1.75-5x32 scope. I love this rifle, it's light, handy, reliable, weather proof. The only thing I might do in the future in cerokote the metal.

I also have a ruger no. 1 in 280 rem I really like but is more of a fair weather rifle.

These are my two goto rifles.

The top one is a Brno ZG-47 that I had rebarreled to 9.3X62.

The lower rifle is a Sears Model 50(FN) that I had rebarreled and modified to .375 Ruger.
