Hello gun nutz,

I am shopping around for optics to put on a xcr or tavor that will be acquired soon.
300 meters is what I am looking to reliably obtain and any more would be a bonus and past my current skills. No store near me has all the items I have narrowed it down to so I am calling on your expert advice before dropping some hard earned cash.

Elcan Spector 4x (not the DR due to $) this I would really like to see in person

Acog 4x32 I like the green chevron but the idea of tritium burning out is unsettling

Eotech (the one that takes AA's) and a 3x magnafier - I have no experience with this setup and would like to try it but I hear the weight is an issue.

Your input is much appreciated!

Thanks I like the idea of a bdc. I am looking for a "battle" sight that can assist in hitting a target around 300m better than irons. I do not expect accuracy of a scope with target turrets and I am not looking for tight groupings.

Only experience I have with Elcan is the C79, and I do not like it. First time I ever used an ACOG i was hitting chest size targets out to 500m no problem, so it would be my recommendation from my experiences with optics (which is rather limited). As for the EoTech, it's decent for what it is. I've hit out to 300m chest sized target, not every shot but I'd say 60%ish. I've never used it with a magnifier before, but haven't heard of any major issues. It really all depends on how much you're willing to spend, and what exactly its main use will be. As a note though, I've only used AR-15/C-8 rifles with these 3 types of optics.

Have a used Elcan Spectre DR back from the sandbox that I bought from CRAFM i dont want anymore. Great scope but i want a 1-6x for 3G. Let it go for $1100.

The 4x32 Acog's have sh!tty eye relief. I use the Acog TA11F 3.5X35mm and shoot mostly at 300 - 400 yards. Great optic. The TA11's eye relief is 3" plus (more than advertised).

Tritium will take 12 years to burn out and only matters if you're out shooting at night. The fiber optic is what illuminates the reticle in daylight and still works at dusk. This optic is extremely rugged, sh!t simple and the reticle is fool proof. I have taken new shooters out with it and within an hour they are getting hits out to 600 yards prone.

Here is some good practical advice on Acog's:

If you want to spend ACOG or Elcan $'s you should look at the new 1x6 Vortex or Leupold. P and D has them for $1500 ish.

I used to use the red dot plus magnifier and didn't like it. A good 1-x is more versatile.

Another vote for ACOG. I did fairly well (as a first timer) at the BCRA service rifle match I attended using it.

That said I still would like a S&B PMII 1.1-4 or a Leupold 1-6.
