Hi,

The coyotes are pretty prevalent this year around here (as are the bloody skunks!!!), so I'm looking to do our area a favor and thin them out a bit.....

It looks to me like the Primos Alpha-Dogg is the best value on the market. Does anyone disagree? If so, other suggestions?? Do you suggest the moving decoy option??

Thank you.

I have both, a ecaller (foxpro hellfire) and bought the stricty business set from carver calls.

I bought a foxpro because I heard they had great support which seems correct and while the hand calls have more of a learning curve to them, they work great and much cheaper option.

Never got to play with primos calls before

Thx for getting back guys.

I have too many hobbies already, so learning to call with the hand calls it out for me.

I've heard very good things about Foxpro, and pretty good things about Primos. Thing is that the highet end Foxpro is 2x the highest end Primos.

I would buy whatever your budget can afford. It's good to have a hand call just in case your electronic caller fails (batteries etc). Carver's set of rubber calls is my go to set for handcalls. I use a Wildlife Technologies MA-21 as my electronic caller.

Hard to beat Kerry Carver for custom hand calls. I have a beautiful spalted maple 6" howler from him, as well as 3 Cottontail double reeds. Somewhere on CGN there is a Coyote Custom Call thread, just can't seem to find it at the moment.

IM sure the Primos will be fine. Just watch though, calling coyotes can be addicting and you can drop abit of money trying things out, so for a caller I would buy a good one right from the start. :)

I like the Primos Deer Bleat & bawl, only I really wail on it and get a lot of volume going. I vary the tone and add a lot of emotion to it. It just works. I even wore out one call and had to replace the reed.

hahah - Fair enough. I've done it with my brother, and I'm guessing the shooting of the bastards will be addicting, but those calls are TERRIBLE!!! Call me soft, but they sound like a kitten, a puppy, some bunnies, and my one baby are being burned alive in a very slow burning house fire....

I think it'll be a primos Alpha....

Working a mouth call isn't exactly rocket science. I've had good luck with about any of the cottontail or jack rabbit calls, including a couple of wolves.

I was duck hunting and saw a coyote in the distance so I took my RNT Daisy Cutter apart and used the insert as an open reed predator call. Lured him in close enough and got him with the shotgun.

Best predator call? "Hello handsome man!" from the Bangkok night birds! :d

Seriously, Gunnee, I apologize but I don't have the experience to give you any useful advice here. It's just that your thread's title was sooooo irresistible! :)

There was a pretty epic thread (31 pages) started by me several years ago on the subject:

I know you were talking about an e caller, but custom coyote calls are easy and fun to use, not to mention fun to buy and collect. They are far superior to store bought calls.

Here are some of mine from the thread:

Nice, but you don't want to drop those in the slough.
