I have recently purchased my first "precision rifle", (Rem 700 SPS Varmint 22-250), and had planned on buying Leupold glass. However, a friend suggested Falcon Optics as a good choice to go with to save some cash and have a more durable scope. Given the difference in price between the two, I have given a considerable amount of thought to swaying from Leupold.

I was wondering if anyone cared to share their opinions of and/or experience with Falcon Optics in order to give me a hand making the choice.

Thanks for any help.

I don't know about Falcon Optics, but I have the 700 VLS in 22.250 and I have one of the Leapers 3-9x40 with mill dot reticle on it. Works excellently.
For about 100$ it's significantly cheaper. Put on some Leupold rings (or Millet) and you're good.
Check out Marstar.

In my opinion, and as many will agree, you should get the best possible glass that you can afford, even if it means saving up for a while. Match that with quality mounts as well.

A good scope can last you for decades; buy it once and buy it right instead of buying another when you feel you need a better one.

All the high zoom falcons are 50+ mm bells. I don't like anything over 40mm. The you gotta buy High rings and an adjustable cheek piece cuz your face won't anchor right and then you've got more headaches.

If you want my opinion you would probably be happier with a bushnell 4200 say 6-24x40 or a 8-32x40 in your choice of reticil than the falcon.

Leupold provides an advantage over many others; it has a Canadian warranty depot, and a no questions asked guarantee. That has value in my opinion.

So does Leapers. The only problem is I don't think you can get them in a higher power than 9x.

There is a reason that most of us shoot NightForce......You will never regret it nor will you ever need to upgrade.

As one who has tried the "I will get this for now" route.

Get the best you can afford......or can't afford for that matter.

I bought 3 that I couldn't afford and I couldn't be happier :D

Yup.

I own everything that is worth at least $1500 all the way up to $3200 -!

To tell you the truth, the least expensive one is a Bushnell 10X mildot 3200. It's an outstanding scope for the value - they even can handle punishing recoil for what it's worth.

The only reason I have the expensive stuff is that it's what goes on original equipment and I just traded for it. I've never actually had to drop big bucks, for what I've recently aquired.

I love every one I've ever owned and never had any complaints. Only one I ever regretted selling was a Kahles ZF-84 - awesome clarity and solid scope.

Cheers, Carl

If you decide to go with leupold and are looking at their higher end line up give nightforce a look as well, their scopes are a work of art.

Bro, I'm glad you've had some measure of success and satisfaction with your scopes, but you gotta get out more my friend :D

"Leapers" are to Precision rifles what raging herpes is to your wedding night.

Have a boo at the Vortex scopes. Google 'em. I have the 6.5-20X44, and I'm happy. Lifetime unconditional warranty. Are there better scopes? Absolutely. Can I afford them? Nope.

Good point Stevebc....$1600.00 is a bunch of money when you have other more important things to spend it on.

Get the Bushnell 3200 fixed 10x. It is a fantastic scope and the price has dropped a little bit in the last year or so.

You mentioned this was your first so worry more about trigger time and putting a lot of lead down range thanks to money invested in reloading. Then when you get really serious, drop some dough on a really nice rig, then worry about the scopes over a $1000.

This is just my opinion though.

One of the "sniper" web sites did a review on the Falcon, and they liked it, but it does have quite a bit less adjustment available. I own 3 Leupolds, and love 'em, I have not heard anything bad about the Falcon, but I echo the advice of others. Get the best glass you can afford even if it means you have to save up for a while.
