Your opinions and experience is appreciated, CSA VZ 58 or CZ 858?

I have saved my pennies and am looking to purchase either of these rifles (non restricted) and frankly, I do not have experience with either. I know for sure that I would like the folding stock (99% range plinking for this rifle), and I am wanting 7.62 x 39.
I think I would prefer a fixed over telescopic stock although I am open to either.
I would appreciate the opinions of those who have used both!
I am most certainly going to leave everything bone-stock.

Thanks!

The CZ 858 comes with more stuff like 2 more magazines plus bag, and a bayonet. However the CSA VZ58 comes with black furniture (nicer finishing) and a tabbed bolt carrier which prevents the gremlin from happening. Many people have said that they no longer experience the gremlin, but "broncoo" the chief 858 tabber says he can make any 858 exhibit the gremlin - it happens if you press the trigger in a certain way. Therefore, if you're going to get a 858, you must have it tabbed by broncoo.

Other than that they're equal. I think the cost of modding the bolt carrier of the 858 is less expensive than buying all the stuff that the CSA is missing compared to the 858, but the CSA looks nicer.

Also - a chromed line version of the CSA in non-restricted form is coming out this year. You might want to wait for that, but there's only going to be 100 made this year.

I like the idea of a chrome lined barrel, but otherwise the CZ858 is much less money. Pay a few bucks and get Broncoo to work his magic and then upgrage the rifle further according to your own tastes. You will still be ahead in overall cost.

I have a CZ 858 in 7.62 and a CSA in 5.56. The finish on the CZ is tougher than the CSA and in my opinion is much nicer.

Neither of my VZ/CZ's have chrome bores and I don't care, I always clean my guns after shooting them regardless so it makes no difference.

My CSA has the gremlin tab, my CZ does not. I have never experienced the gremlin with either and I have shot about 2000 rounds throught the CZ.

I have had to do a bit of fitting with the bolt carrier on my CSA, it was binding when I got it. Shoddy workmanship.

The CSA has thicker receiver walls and is tapped for a scope rail which is a big plus. If you can live with the CSA paint job then get the CSA.

IMO the CSA paint job is better in terms of appearance than the CZ. I really dont like the 858 finish but thats just me.

The VZ58 is $829 or so including the telescopic stock and upgraded pistol grip, and as mentioned has the thicker receiver and is tapped for scope rail. The only minus is the 2 extra mags you get with the 858.
If you were planning on upgrading the stock 858 furniture with similar gear, the VZ58 is actually cheaper.

I will buy another one, and there's no doubt it will be a vz58 in 7.62 x 39. I hope to add a third if the 7.62 Nato version ever gets built.

on the telescoping stock version of the CSA 7.62x39 is the part the buffer tube screws into removable or part of the receiver? im tooling around with the idea of putting a galil folder stock on a CSA

I found a nice CSA through Hnatiuks here in NS. Nice rifle. First thing I did though was "upgrade" the grip. It seemed very small, although I do not have particularly large hands at all.

I was pleased to see that it has less recoil and is not as noisy as my Russian SKS...I really like it - although I admit that the $869 + tax stung a bit, compared to $200 for an SKS. But I wanted a lighter-to-carry rifle that I could just leave stock...no lasers, no 'tactical" add-ons - just something very light, non-restricted, accurate (enough) with the stock sights...and this is it.

I got it in 7.62 rather than the 5.56...for now I will fire corrosive, because it strips VERY easily for cleaning first in a diluted ammonia bath to dissolve the salts from the milsurp primers, and then a standard cleaning and light oiling.

Thanks Hnatiuks!
