Worst thing is the Case needs to be 51mm long minimum for Sambar hunting as per Regs..

None of the above. Obscure calibers or anemic calibers in a poor operating system. Stick with bolt action and common caliber. 308 comes to mind.

A 303 is obscure? Compared to what? The 303 is far from obscure. Go to ANY small town store selling ammo and you will find 22LR, 30-30, 308, 30-06 AND 303.

Go figure. Now you will find limited bullet weights for it because it was design for the 174 gr. The Canadian Rangers use the 180 RN made by Remington. I personally like the 174 UMC stuff.

To answer the OP's question, My vote would be for the 303. It is also useful for larger game as well.

The only caveat with the answer is that the Ruger #1 is slower for a quick second shot.

My second choice for deer sized game would be the reliable 30-30 with 125 gr hand loaded bullets.
