From what I read, that gentleman personally exhausted 267 boxes of 20ga shells through his Benelli - that would be over 6,000 shells in 3 days -incredible figure, if authentic.
I gotta call bull on that. Unless you're pitlamping, 2000 shells a day on live targets with time to reload etc would be a hell of a challenge on a range.. in hunting conditions, i just can't see it. Even 20 guage. There'd have to be a trick to it.

As long as somebody is overseeing the management of the resource AND the meat is not going to waste, I'm okay with it.
Gopher question - Up here in the Yukon gophers are only hunted occaisionally, but they are mostly ending up in somebody's belly when they are hunted. I gather from posts, and some pics, that this is not the case down south. So what are they being "hunted" for? Are they causing significant problems, or are guys just exploding them to watch them go bang?

Reference some of the links I've visited afterwards out of curiousity......appears shooting 1000+ shells/day is commonplace - perhaps beltfed shotguns are a requirement over there

Dude - go run a thousand rounds thru your shotty. Even at the range, and even without shooting at anything in particular. Then come talk to me.
2 or 3 hundred and it's an exhausting day for me. Doing 1000 three days in a row? During daylight hours only? I'm sure there's someone somewhere who could do it but suffice to say it sounds like a bit of 'rounding up' to me.

i will confirm the shell numbers but that seems to be about right depnding on where you are

Some of you guys really need to get off the couch.
These three day packages usually include 2500 -3000 shells "free" The guys I know always buy more than that.
They use semi autos , light loads, and they shoot 1000 shells a day and still have time for meals and JD.

If you google South American dove populations it appears there are no shortage of doves despite hunting. Matter of fact, they seem to be a pest, destroying a large portion of the sorghum, sunflower and soybean crops. If so, I see no problem at all with this activity.

If all those birds wre not shot in one day, they must be keepin in the freezer.
I simply assumed the birds he had there were shot in the one day, as the article claimed 36,000 over 3 days. Seems pretty logical to think that they were all in shot in one day
