Your Thoughts On The 325 Wsm

I feel that the .325 WSM would make an excellent short action carbine rifle in a BLR which would have stopping power for medium game with stout premium bullets, as well as excellent long range ballistics, at least as good as a 338 win mag and comparable to all but the .30 ultra mags.

225 grain .338 win mag mv=2780 fps; me=3860 ft-lbs
@200 yds v=2374 fps; e=2815 ft-lbs

220 grain .325 WSM mv=2840 fps; me=3941 ft-lbs
@200 yds v=2382 fps; e=2772 ft-lbs

Not better than .338 but certainly not worse. And it comes in a more compact package. Definite performance advantage over an 8x57 mauser.This is my favourite of the WSMs, as there is a relative lack of good medium bore calibers, as compared with the .30s and .277 and 7mm. It would be outstanding as a moose gun. The .350 rem mag is also excellent but not readily available. .35 whelan is another excellent caliber. If you are not looking for a compact rifle, then the .338 win mag is probably the way to go. It is also an excellent caliber with a sterling reputation. However the performance of the .325 is pretty impressive, in my opinion. Those that like it will buy it, those that don't, won't. I personally have no use whatsoever for a .270 WSM or a 300 WSM. I have other calibers that can do the same basic thing. I suppose you can say the same thing about the .325. A matter of personal preference. Whether the .325 sticks is up to the consumers, but I hope it does.:)
