Your top 3 shotguns ?

I considered buying a new 20ga from the cuurent line-up, but the price is crazy high and I don't like the pistol grip on the new ones.

I was very pleased to find that 20ga a couple weeks ago on the EE.

.

I'd prefer a straight stock but a couple of years ago I picked up an older, but new, Ruger Red Label OU in 20ga. Mag., ;)with pistol grip.

The main purpose is to be my rainy day Grouse gun. On sunny days, :pmy little 12ga. English SxS gets the call for upland birds:D.

I like pistol grips in general. All mine have them.

I was referring to the style of pistol grip on the current resurrected Ithacas. Way too long and way too round. Goofy looking sort of.

Gotcha :). On the 'lighter stuff', shotguns and rifles I actually prefer the straight stock configuration. Examply, my English 2 1/2" SxS. Where I do prefer the pistol grip design for example, is on my AYA 10ga 3 1/2" SxS and wish I had a pistol grip set-up on my 45-70 Marlin 1895GS. Some of the 'stuff' that boots a little harder:redface:.

Hey SuperCub (Paul) I talked to the owner of Prophet River about ordering a new Ithaca 16 gauge. He advised me that they had so many warranty returns that he was not going to sell them anymore. I belive Elwood Epps sells them now. The configuration of the grip does not appeal to me. I hope the bugs are ironed out soon, it is a great old company. ( a bit off topic sorry)

While there are currently more than 3 shotguns in the collection, the 3 that get by far the most use are:

a) a Browning Citori O/U 20 gauge for upland hunting and informal clay shooting

b) a Remington SP-10 semi 10 gauge for goose shoots and close-in coyote calling

c) a Browning B-80 semi 12 gauge for ducks, mixed waterfowl, or really just mixed anything. If I'm at all confused about what to grab, I just grab this and move on to the next problem :p

Truth is, if I had to get rid of the rest of my shotguns, I'd probably never miss them.

The three that I actually use are:

Beretta 687 Silver Pigeon 111, 3" 12 gauge 28 inch barrels. Nice wood.

Armsport 10 Gauge over/under 32 inch pipes mod and mod for clobbering geese.

Fabarm Gamma 3", 30" barrels and IC and mod chokes permanently stuck in from shooting steel.:( I shoot it better than any shotgun I've ever owned.

#4) a Fabarm Gamma 2 that I bought because I was wracked with guilt over the stuck choke thing, and because it has wood that would make a hungry gun nut abandon a prime rib.

It would be tough for me to limit myself to only 3 shotguns.
In order of use, the ones I use the most are:
16 ga. Citori White Lightning 28" Invector, Usually with IC/Mod for all upland, light water fowling and sporting clays
12 ga. Win Model 12 28" Hastings VR barrel with Mod or IC choke for general waterfowl hunting
12 ga AYA #1 28" IC / IM and 2nd set of barrels 25" Cyl / IC for skeet and birds over pointing dogs
I could do it all with those three, but sometimes situations call for one of my drillings, or the .410 that matches my 16 Citori, or my Ithaca English ultralight 20 ga. They all get used. My shotgun that gets used the least lately is my Remington Wingmaster 12.

I'm mostly a hunter so
1. Baikal ij58 sxs 12ga
2. Mossberg 535ats 12ga w/slug barrel
3. Ithaca 4e trap 12ga made in 1919

Its hard to pass on my featherweight 37 pump and my sxs 10ga and my other mossberg pump guns

My ideal, yet reasonably priced quiver:

Waterfowl gun: Browning Maxus, synthetic, 12 gauge

Sporting gun: Beretta 682 Sporting 12 gauge, with Briley sub-gauge tubes

Upland bird gun: Browning 625 Field, 28 gauge

What I actually have:

Waterfowl gun: Beretta A 390, 12 gauge

Sporting gun: Browning Citori 625 Field 12 gauge

Upland bird gun: Browning 525 Field, 20 gauge

This is not an easy task, lets see:

Dreaming (with-in reality of course):

Perazzi MX8 12 ga for the clays (tubed with carrier barrel)
Beretta 390 Gold Sporting 12 ga for the big birds and a back-up target gun
AYA No 1 in 28 ga for upland work

Reality:

Browning XS Skeet with tubes
Beretta 391 Sporting 12 ga - big birds and back-up targets
Beretta 391 sporting 20 ga for upland

Beretta FS-1 20 guage folder. Shot a lot of birds out the truck window long before this practice was frowned upon.

Beretta BL3 20 guage. Grouse on the wing if I am lucky.

Remington 58 semi 3inch. Turkeys and geese with the 3inch barrel and skeet with a 26 inch 870 skeet barrel.

In my previous post #7, are the three favorites or at least the three most frequently 'called on' in the field. Two more;)keepers and 'favorites', although not called upon quite as often are a;

Brno ZH 304 combination, 7x57R/12ga.

ModelZH-300BrnoCombo7x5712gaSkeetba.jpg

Ruger Red Label, older model OU in 20ga. Magnum.

ModelRedLabelRugerOU20gaMag.jpg

The top 3:

Win. Super X-Model 1, had this one since 1974 most reliable shotgun I've ever owned. I made a slug barrel for it.

Browning Model 12 Grade V in 20 ga.

Classic Doubles OU 12 ga skeet

1)fabarm martial pump 14" barrel threaded for chokes -for slugs, super lightweight and easy to carry around

2)Benelli supernova 28" barrel - for good times clay busting

both of these would definitely cover me for hunting which Id like to get into eventually. If I wanted to blow 500 bucks Id buy a 590a1 just cause I likes em but I have absolutely 0 need for 3 shotguns so the italians get all my money there.
