Hey gang,

I am getting ready to purchase 2 x youth .22s. The kids have graduated up to their first rifles.
I was just about to pull the check out on 2 Rascals but then thought that the Little Badgers seem a bit more our style.
I like the rail system, the folding aspect, the carry case, basic design, not a savage, etc..

I've never handled a Little Badger. Do you think they will be sufficient for a 6 year old to fire from a bench? Anyone's kids using the Little Badger? Adjustable stock should get me into the same (ish) length as the rascal?

Should I just buy the Rascals and be done with it?

Thanks,

Mack

My kid loves her rascal, the sights are good practice for target sights, you can add some pic rail on top if you want later, the feed ramp works well, she's shooting tiny groups at 25 yds with it, it likes just about any ammo, easy to clean, lightweight, accutrigger

I don't know a lot about the badger.

Twenty five years ago I bought a Chipmunk for my youngest son, however I found he out grew it after a couple of years. When his son was born I bought a CZ 452 Scout for the grandson, since I thought it would be a better long term proposition!

Thanks guys. Indeed that CZ scout looks great, but a bit more than I want to spend right now x2.
I guess, my thought was that the Badger could be adjusted for when they grow. Also (ahem) I could carry the badger when I head out to the camp and have that as an option also.

I own a little badger , these rifles are unbelievably accurate . I would think the rascal may be a better rifle for teaching proper shooting and they have a safety . The rascal just seems like more of a "real " rifle than the novelty of the badger . Being full stocked the rascal has a proper rest for small cheeks rather than just a wire stock and is much easier to hold and aim . Whatever rifle you choose your kids will have a great time shooting with you . Enjoy your time together .

My son has been shooting a Rascal since he was 5. I liked it over other options as it resembles working a typical rifle action. It feeds easy, is really light, Accutrigger, smooth bolt, and it is very accurate. I have added a red dot for him which he really likes.

I bought a 'pink' rascal for my grandaughters...they learned to shoot with it,shot a bunch of grouse and the oldest one graduated to a 243 this last year and took her first mule deer.
I like the rascal for starting off kids shooting because it's small and lightweight, single shot, peep sight and has a great trigger.

Rascal, period. My 14 year old daughter won't let me sell ours...she still loves the thing. In contrast, I've owned 2 LBs and I'll never own another. If you want one for yourself...get one, but not for little kids. The Rascal is nicer to shoot, good practice for larger bolt actions, accurate, etc. etc. Nice little shooter.

I agree... I bought a little badger for myself and it is what I'll initially teach my girls how to shoot with, but if they show any interest at all in continuing to shoot or getting more serious about it, then I'll spring for a Rascal for them.

I think a Rascal is a better proposition as well. It looks and feels more like a rifle, making it more suitable for kids IMO. And if you also have a hunting rifle that you use, your kids will be over joyed to be "just like dad". The colors are fun, or you can get the wood version.

I personally use a Ruger 10/22 for my 5 and 7 year old. It is not a good fit as the stock is just too bulky for their little bodies. Rascals are designed for kids.

Out of those two I would definately choose the Rascal as the little badger is not really a good choice for a child just learning how to shoot.

I bought my grandson a CZ scout for his first rifle 3 years ago . I went with the scout because it is a rifle that he could grow with. He got really board with the single shot adapter last year so I got him a 5 round mag and I also bedded it into a Boyds stock ( that I modified for him) and added a 6-24 X44 Hawke varmint scope. With good ammo he can shoot consistant 1/2" groups at 50 yards if he takes his time. As he grows and they do grow fast all I have to do is add spacers to increase the lengh of pull.

I made the mistake of buying my son a badger when they first came out. He wasn't strong enough to operate the latch that unhinges the action so when he tries to load it the muzzle had a tendency to wave around. The trigger is also VERY light on these. I seen the error of my ways and have gotten him a rascal. Much better rifle for a younger kid to cut their teeth on. Now fast forward a couple of years and he is more then capable of using the badger. Teach you kids on the rascal then think about a badger. Of course now my son wants a semi-automatic.
