Hi, I have come across a m48 that is in 30-06 cal. I have the mauser bible and it says nothing in there about any yugo's in 30-06. The rifle I am told is all original, ie full wood and the barrel is the exact lenght as other m48s. Can anyone shed some light on this?? BTW he also has a siamese (8x50siam.) any info ?

the rifle has cyrilic lettering, produced at factory 44, and the guy has shot 30.06 through it. He claims to have picked it up thinking that it was 8mm, but 8mm wouldn't chamber. Still waiting for a chance to inspect it closer.

Most 8mm should chamber in a 30'06......

The 8mm Mauser will chamber in a 30-06 Springfield, now if you survive unharmed I'd conisder myself lucky since you just pushed a .323 bullet in a .308 bore.

The only two model 98 in 30-06 that i know are the short Columbian and the Norvegian.

I never shot my Norvegian but it's clearly stamped 30-06 on receiver.

I'll post a pic later.

Looks like a M48 except for markings and caliber

I tried to chamber a 30-06 cartridge and it works.
Never shot her.

Thanks for reminding me to remove dust on my old rifles.

HAER and 7.62 are norwegian army markings. 147 is the code for j.p. sauer manufacture. 1938 is the year of manufacture. the 30-06 marking was added by somebody after it was released by the norwegians.

so you have a rifle that was carried by the german occupation forces in norway during WWII, then converted to 7.62mm (30-06) by the norwegians post war.

For what its worth, we have dealt several hundsred thousand Yugo Mausers over the years, never saw one that was original in .30-06....The action is too short, would require a cut out of the upper receiver ring and minor work to the mag area....
A few were "converted in Yugo to 7.62 Nato....
Any pictures of the markings ?

There is such thing as a M50 in 30-06. P&S has one. Looks like an M48
