Just got a new [to me] Yugo M48BO Mauser, looks great all over, though one thing... The bolt is acting odd... I can #### it, decock it, dry fire etc, it all appears to operate normally except:
- It is VERY difficult to change the safety, I generally have to use the heel of my hand to cycle the safety.
- Usually I cannot get the safety back on without having to cycle the bolt a couple of times then I have to use 2 hands.
i.e. If I have a round chambered and bolt cocked, there is usually no way to put the safety back on... !!
My other 2 Mausers [Brazilian & Czech] the only time I cannot engage the safety is immediately aftr firing [de-cocked] which I believe is normal.
So what is wrong here, what should I look at replacing?
A couple of clues maybe:
- It is VERY difficlt to break down the bolt & remove the firing pin, I frequently have to lean on it with my full weight. [it easily has 3 times the force of my other 2]
- the cocking piece does not rotate around the end of the firing pin freely or smoothly. It will bind and catch and some times requires a good amount of force. [once the bolt has been broken down and the spring removed, they are very clean - no goo jamming it up]
So, is the spring tension normal for a Yugo?
I'm suspicious of the firing pin itself, could someone have jacked an incrrect pin in there?
Or are these Yugos just beasts?
-thanks
