The M56 is a darn good submachine gun no matter what you call it. Incredibly reliable and will digest just about any ammo it is fed. They have relatively close tolerances but are still operational under pretty grueling conditions. Yes, it's a bastard child but its DNA is impeccable. It utilizes the best features of several different designs and it does the job very well. As for the bayo, thanks for posting and thanks to Sig2101 for recognizing it and posting the pics.
IMHO a bayonet on a smg is a waste and completely defeats the purpose of the smg system. Maybe the Czechs felt the user needed a good utility/combat knife???

The M56 submachine gun is a Yugoslavian submachine gun chambered in 7.62×25mm Tokarev, designed for use with the Yugoslav People's Army. Initially a state-funded product, it was later produced by Zastava Arms and saw use in a number of conflicts following the breakup of former Yugoslavia. The M56 is a clone of the MP 40 submachine gun used by Nazi Germany, easily distinguished from the MP 40 by its increased length and curved magazine.[SUP][1][/SUP]
While inexpensive to produce and easy to maintain, the M56 also proved to be quite effective at range over its German counterpart; its 7.62 mm cartridge providing significantly more penetration over the 9×19mm round found in the MP 40. And it got nothing to do with "Czechs"
You're right, it has nothing to do with the Czhecs. My bad. Some of this stuff blurs together after a while. Thanks for the clarification. I agree it's a good smg but I still don't understand the bayonet. It isn't the first smg to have been built with this application but I have never seen one mounted other than for training purposes.
Believe me, when you about to enter that house and clear rooms inside you damn sure you put that knife on top of that barrel and full magazine of 32 armour piercing rounds.
