zastava 98 stock from boyds

As far as i know the zastava is virtually identical to a mauser 98, just find out which version is the same (Baribal?)...there's only a million or so options once you call it a mauser.

Trigger guard is different from the PH, samr a "commercial" FN, means about 3/8" shrter in front of the front action screw.

They get imported under a couple of different naming schemes, mostly dependent on the importer's desires. If you look it up on the Zastava website, you'll find all their bolt action rifles listed as either a M70 or M85.

The M70 are standard mauser action, for full powered cartidges, including the .308
The M85 are short mauser action, for intermediate cartridges (.223/5.56, 7.62x39, 22-250, etc.)

Your "Zastava 98" is actually a Zastava M70 in .308

Boyds carries 1 stock for it:

(p.s. The only reason I know all that is because I spent way too much time reading the interwebs about Zastava before I bought my M85 a month ago).

Yes, it's a model 70, but it's also called "Z98" and there is a M98, which is the same but with shrooud mounted flag safety (same as K98).
Anyhow, any stock made for the FN 98 will also fit the Zastava actions.

There is a Boyd made for the Remington 798, it will also fit it, as it's the same rifle.

I wish they'd ditch the thumb safety for the flag safety in all their guns. I know it won't happen, but I can dream the dream.

Not a fan of the mechanism used for their thumb safety, doesn't strike me as anywhere near as positive as the traditional flag safety. I rarely use the safety on any gun (except the one between my ears), but when I do, I want it to be as positive as possible. I much prefer something that blocks the pin or bolt directly over something that just blocks the trigger.

Well, the older ones did block both the trigger and the bolt, but when thay started selling to Remington, they cut the front end portion of the slide which used to block the bolt.

The top one is a new manufacture M70, where you can see the front end of slide cut

This one shows an older M70 with the original safety lever with the bolt lock engaged.

I had ordered one for one of my browning safari grades, all the mauser based stocks are relatively the same from my inquiries with Boyd. They all have a longer cut out for the longer steel floor plate, there are some barrel channel options (military or commercial), no bolt cutout on any of them or a cutout for a side safety. These seems to be case with any of the Mauser stocks. (Browning, Husqvarna, weatherby, Sako, interarms, Charles daly, Remington 798 etc...) They will all fit, but they will all require fitting.
