Zastava, Phil???

That is like weird fetish ####...

Like pics of bearded gals in thongs washing sports cars...

Think yugoslavian grandmothers in 1960's clothing with a head covering. Dont get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with Zastava. One of the answers to the bi weekly thread.....best value rifle. They are simply chevrolet rifles with two paint colours available, very few "high grade".

M85 Stutzen in 7.62x39.

Hell on gophers, coyotes, and deer.

Just on 'rudaw english', ekurd.net or 'bas news english'. Can't remember which. These are Kurdish online news outlets. There's an article on the Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga forces being trained on Serbian-issue Zastava M93s by the Italians. These are .50 cal. sniper rifles.

The best about Zastava is you don't need to worry about the depreciation of it value. It is already sold at bottom price for a new mauser.
I only take care of mine once, when I got Dana coat from Jordan smith to coat the bore. After that I don't do any maintenance for it. It shoots well, it kills well.
Having said that, my next one will be cz. Zastava is too rough. No, rubbing the action while watching tv can't solve the problem.

No, probably not. However, cycling the action, especially with a wee bit of lapping compound, can work wonders. :) It doesn't turn them into high-grade H&H's, but it smooths out the action considerably.

Not a great picture, but an M85 I owned had a very nice oil finish. I have not seen a Zastava as dark or well grained.

Zastava vs Savage? I would probably sample a Zastava m98 in 7x57 with a full stock if I had the means. Not a modern Savage fan, style counts.

I picked up a T3 lite locally for approx the same price as a Zastava from Tradex. Kind of apples and oranges but maybe a fairer comparison than Zastava vs. Savage.

Actually, while they're definitely not Swedes ( ;) ) they have several grades of wood. The thing is that the importer will not get rifles he can't sell.... so he takes only the "standard" level, or, if you prefer, the "popular" model. If you guys are ready to spend more $$$, they can be found with high grade wood and hand engraving ....

Understatement of the decade. Take the damned thing out in the yard and snap us a photo under daylight. That stock looks too nice to be viewed in Bubbles-vision!

Unfortunately the gun is with a new owner since the recent financial crisis. He is in Saskatchewan so I know it will be happy with lots of gophers to chase.

This is about as good as it gets:

If I took a gun out in the "yard" I would be tackled and probably tased...

Zastava is the best hunting rifle for the money available in Canada.
All steel, factory sighted in and very accurate iron sights, and good walnut stock.

What more does one want out of rifle, that will actually be used for hunting?
I suspect lot of derogatory comments about Zastava comes from those that do not own one, or for political (redneck) reasons- where everything that comes from eastern Europe must be inferior.

Disclosure:
I am Zastava fan club member number 002.

Pictures coming shortly.

I would not describe the sights on the Zastava as very accurate, at least not my m85.

Cool guns nonetheless, and not especially hard to adjust them.
