The boltface on my Zastava M70SS has a ridge on the top of the bolt face, is this normal? My other 98's boltface's doesn't have this ridge. View attachment 7303

The boltface had brass shavings on it after firing, after I rounded the edge of the ejector groove, it stopped the sharp edge from digging into the brass. I think this boltface ridge may have contributed by forcing the case into the ejector groove.

I would have thought is was a pressure sign but it did it closing on an unfired cartridge.

That "ridge" is not normal. The bolt face should be flat all the way across the face of it, and it is definitely what is causing the damage to the brass.

Phone whomever you bought it from and tell them the problem. Refer them to this thread. Return the rifle to the Dealer, along with a letter (if you have to ship it) and the brass case. It is a factory defect, and it should be replaced. A good gunsmith should be able to face it foo in his lathe, but if the rifle is under warranty, it is not up to you to spend the money doing it.

Anyone buying a new rifle should not do any "work" on it themselves if it is under warranty, as it can void that warranty.

As pointed out, the boltface should be flat, all the way to the positioning lip at the edge of the face. The machining was not done correctly. It would be easy enough for a gunsmith to use a lathe, and clean up the facing cut. But the presence of that ridge may have affected the positioning of the headspace gauge when the breech was fitted.
If it is a new rifle, send it back. If it isn't, it needs to be repaired.

That's what I thought, every surface of this bolt is rough and sharp, if you are in the bush and need to shave you could use the extractor. I talked to the shop where I bought the gun they said return it for warranty.
