Hi everyone. I bought a surplus M57 7.62x25. The front sight is misaligned to the left, and needs to be drifted to the right.

Can this front sight be tapped from either direction with a hammer and brass punch? Or should it only be drifted in one direction/ is it tapered? ie. if I need to drift it right, tap it all the way out from the left side, then re-seat and tap it in from the right.

So far I gave it a little tapping from left to right with a brass punch, light to moderate tapping didn't budge it. Don't want to give it more force without checking this first.

I will be getting one o these soon so I googled the front sight, drift with a brass punch, it's beenin there for a long time so the first smack will likely need to be stiff but from all accounts it will move! Let me know how it works out! Cheers Bob

Thanks, I gave it a few good smacks with my brass punch. Didn't budge. Going to try to give it a little penetrating oil or CLP, could be a little corroded. Failing that, I guess I can try heating it a bit.

Don't adjust the sight until you shoot the pistol the line on the front sight should match through and through. Remember each pistol is hand made and fitted so slight variances will be there and the sights will reflect that. Mine looks like it is slight off to the right but is actually very very accurate. I found mine shot about 2 inches right at 10m but the groups are impressive. That's with Surplus Czech ammo. I tried tapping the sight over ever so slightly but the sight is supper fixed and will likely require one of those fancy leverage tools to adjust but I stopped after deciding the sight would be best left alone since it worked perfectly and could easily be adjusted for.

HMm, ok I'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes. Staring down the sights I'll need to basically aim the giant gap between the rear right sight and the left of the front sigh blade as my aimpoint. I do see a factory line marked through the front of the pistol slide and the side of the front sight base.

Got it out to the range today. I was hitting my 5" target at 15 yds no problem, where the front site is a bit to the left didn't throw it off as much as I thought, but it could stand to be tapped to the right a bit.

Unfortunately, my batch of Czech surplus ammo has extremely hard primers. The Norinco Type 54's I used this stuff with used to worked fine (about 90%), but a few other pistols (like the Yugo, and a Norc NP762) needed a few strikes most of the time. My Norinco yellow box commercial ammo worked just fine with it.

Bought this to polish off my crate of surplus 7.62x25, but since my ammo's primers are so damned hard, that makes it a no go. Going to have to sell this nice pistol, and sell the ammo to my friend who has an old Norc type 54 that fires that ammo 9/10 times with no problem.
