curious if the ejector blade is the same on all commercial Mausers? I wanted to put a longer ejector in my Zastava 30-06. The current one works but the ejection isn't strong. I wanted to put an ejector that would throw the cases with more strength (one that would protrude from open bolt a little more, right now it is almost flush with the bolt face). Where in Canada can one obtain replacement ejectors that would fit Zastava?

Thanks!

Zastava wouldn't likely be interchangeable with CZ, looks like different designs.

thanks for taking the pics. Yes,they look much different. So commercial mausers are not all the same. i wonder if Zastava is the closest to K98 or yugo M48.

a cz550 is not a commercial mauser ....

How does it eject cases if you work the bolt forcefully? If you work the bolt gently, the case can lie in the open action, such that you have to pick it out. It is the nature of the beast with bolt actions that have fixed ejectors.

The ejector is simply a standard Mauser 98 ejector blade. But as tjhaile pointed, the action was designed to be opened with some force. Also, AFAIK there is only one ejector lenght for the Mauser 98. A longer ejector blade can be also be a problem as per it needs to fit in the action slot...

yes, If I do it gently, it stays in the receiver, if I pull the bolt faster, it ejects but rather than being thrown out of the receiver (like my Ruger M77does) , it sort of tumbles out of the action. I noticed that the ejector blade barely protrudes beyond the bolt face when bolt is in fully rear position. I will try to take a photo when I am back at home.

I suppose that is the design. My friend's Zastava M70 in 243 is kinda the same, if pulled lightly, the case can stay in the reviver, but if pulled hard, it ejects, not hard but comes out. The mag follower on the 308 full stock is another story, wobbly and doesn't line up rounds properly.

I'll do some additional testing and see what happens. By the comments and numerous posters here, looks like it is not an isolated issue, or simply not an issue, just a design feature. However, I did see other CRF rifles (such as Winchester) throwing cases with more authority with moderate speed of bolt pull back.
Either way, who might carry spare ejectors for Zastava? It won't hurt to have an spare one anyway if length is all the same.
Thanks all for your comments.

This would have been my definition as well, anything with a controlled round feed and a bit claw extractor where 98 action was used a model to make civilian variants.

Far more to a Mauser then 2 lugs and CRF...
A Win M70 is not a Mauser.

Commercial meaning produced for the civilian consumer market as opposed to the service market?

take the measurments of a cz550 action and compare it to your zastava one ...

if you take the tooling used by zastava you will see that it is coming originally from FN and they even develop a left hand version.

if im trying to fit the cz550 stock to a zastava, rigby or fn it will not work very well but there is a lot of chance that the three previous will fit better together ...

never said this is not a good action but a commercial mauser no way.

btw your link is not saying a word about brevex, hever heard of them?

Just tested mine. It the brass goes about a foot on a light pull, 4 feet on a normal pull, and 7 feet if I pull hard. The ejector sits just proud of the end of the slotted lug, or about 3/32" from the bolt face.

I do have M/98 brand new extractors but I don't think I'll bother selling these at the unit....
You can try Trade Ex....

I have both a CZ 550 in .270win and a Zastava M70 in .375 H&H and I was cleaning them both at the same time. When I was done I was trying to put the bolt back into the CZ and was puzzled as to why it wouldn't work. I was thinking, What the hell? It was working just a moment ago." I was trying to examine the bolt and figure it out for about 5 minutes when I stopped and decided to put the Zastava back together and then I'll come back to the CZ and figure it out. Put the bolt in and then.... What the hell!? Same problem! I'm looking at the gun and then the bolt. I then though, Hey I must of never noticed this before but the bolt shroud for the Zastava is exactly the same as the CZ's bolt....... 10 second pause and then.... Oh ####! I'm trying to put the Zastava bolt into the CZ and the CZ bolt into the Zastava. The bolts to both rifles will make it passed the bolt stop like they're made for it but once you make it to the ejector its game over.

I have nothing to contribute to the original post..... Sorry.
