I have heard these are true stainless steel and that they are nickel plated. Both from seemingly reliable sources.

What is the case? Thanks

I've never seen one that's nickle plated.

I owned one of the stainless M70 models chambered in 270Win

They may have some that are nickle plated but I don't know of any.

400 series stainless is magnetic & is heat treatable.

300 series stainless is non-magnetic & is NOT heat treatable.

PVD will make any steel composition any color you would like.

QPQ will make steel black & provide a 40Rockwell C scale parent material to 60Rockwell C scale surface hardness.

They are stainless, I contacted Zastava a few years ago to find out the twist rate of a rifle I owned at the time and to confirm it was stainless steel.

If you send them an email through the contact form on their US website they are pretty quick to reply usually within a few days or even a few hours.
