Ive been kicking around picking up a zastava m70a( its not a cheaping out thing as I own other 9mms, I just like the whole idea of a plain jane proven time tested platform) Ive decided on the 9mm because of availability and having one type of pistol ammunition at the range.
Does anybody know of any dealers in Canada that stock the m70aa version(slide mounted safety) as opposed to the m70a....from what ive read the m70aa was a import requirement for the US....I am actually quite surprised it isnt mandatory here....They have a half #### safety and a mag safety but to my understanding one would have to chamber a round then manually put in half ####?

I would also consider one of these; I just ordered an M57. Yes, you need to manually lower the hammer to a half #### position. I think it is mandatory in the US because so many carry there.

I had a 92f back in the day....I bought that after seeing lethal weapon lol( true story ) ...a real quality piece for sure, back then there wasnt to many semis to choose from, now its just crazy...thats the nice thing about sights like this we can get input from owners, pros and cons.

I currently have the M70A (no slide safety) that I got from TradeEx. First off, to answer your question: Yes, you'd have to drop the hammer to half-#### on a loaded chamber to be "safe". While the half #### on the TT series is deep compared to a 1911 and useful, I still wouldn't recommend it. I forgot the actual name for it, but the firing pin is the type where if you drop it, it can strike the primer due to it's length. It's old school WW2 reliability but not exactly drop safe.

Second, I've contacted Baikal Canada for the M70AA version to circumvent the above problem but they told me none have been imported and none can be atm.

So don't holster or carry with round in chamber unless you're ready to fire. Learn the one handed, belt rack technique. The rear sight is built for it lol

the good old isreali draw.....lol

Haha yes. It's a good buy for a no nonsense handgun. Super slim (under an inch) and super simple. Simple to the point that the only safety is the mag safety (which only blocks the trigger) and half #### (original safety). The real safety is going to be you, though. Don't drop it lol. I removed the mag safety so the magazine can drop free and I also don't see the point.

Working in the trigger and sear with live and dry fires, the trigger pull comes in at around 5lbs. Heavy for single action but not for military. Very serviceable. It's thin, though, so if you find that uncomfortable...keep shooting! Knife trigger will remind you of glorious Mother Russia pain every time you waste ammunition.

Aftermarket is nearly nonexistent which is bizarre for such a mass produced handgun. That's either attributes to the perfection of Communism or people don't care. Which is a shame because if it received the same love and attention as the 1911 or Glocks, it has potential to be a very amazing handgun. I mean, Sig likes to brag about the it's modular Sig P320 and P250 but the Tok has a removable trigger unit 80 years before. Zastava actually attempted to upgrade it a bit with its M88 series of handguns which would be interested to bring in.

If you want parts and mags, Baikal Canada seems happy to oblige. Very affordable as well. Another to note about the magazine is that the Zastava M70A/AA mags are not compatible with other 9mm Tokarevs. Zastava added a block in the magazine well so the factory steel magazines are thinner, longer and lighter than Norinco et al. 9mm mags.

Okay I'm ranting, but maybe someone else will find it useful.

ranting is good displays a sign of interest...post a question about the more say modern pistols and replies come in pretty quick , lots of ideas, opinions and knowledge. However with t33s and these lets just say they are a little more unique. The only aftermarket i can find is grips and a add on for the mags...I would like to try it next winter some day it is -40 (which isnt uncommon in northern ON) and cycle a couple hundred rounds through it.I am thinking if light lubed with g96 I cant see any problems.Let face it they carried the tokerov version in russia when the germans were invading....who is ranting now...lol...I am curious as to how a modern day polymer would hold up.

Haha I'd be curious how well it ran in -40 as well. I wager it may possibly run with practically no lube.

In the States, the only other modification that I know of is an addon compensator:

Also Zastava's M88 Pistols I referred to earlier:

There is a modern holster for the TT33, Marstar has them.

I have the M70A, it is a nice simple gun and the holster is good too. No issues with steel case ammo.

Any body know where can you buy a compensator for the gun? Does it actual help with felt recoil?

Im having a bugger of a time finding a left hand holster for it...nothing fancy i just dont like the idea of leaving it sit when im going down range to check things out.I guess there isnt to many left handed russians, chinese, polish, serbians former yugoslavians..lol.

I picked up a M57 with a 1260 round can of ammo from a tradeex a few months ago and it's awesome to shoot. Super easy to clean after and it was shipped for free to my door. I have zero complaints so far just need a holster
