Sometimes you get lucky with Zastava wood.

This was as dark as yours when I got it but didn't show the grain anywhere as nice as yours. I stripped it,did some fine sanding and about 10 coats of true oil.
I really like the full wood models like yours. Haven't found any that look that nice thou.

Both of those are really nice looking rifles, and I had never heard of them prior to this post - yes I am new to this ;)
 
Beautiful Rob! For the other gents here thinking of jumping on one, do it. My Zastava has been my rabbit/grouse go getter for the last 2 years. They were on sale and I havent looked back. Goddamn tack driver. Just remember when inserting the mag, the mag release needs to be pressed as opposed to just pops in. Just my experience! Enjoy!
 
I did buy it with the intention of refinishing the stock. I have a crowded shelf of stains, oils, varnishes, shellacs and waxes that I enjoy using....and I know from experience that I can make that stock look even better. However it is so good "as is" that I may not bother.

I see that a new shipment of these MP22 fullstocks came in. They suddenly appeared on several retailers websites but are now disappearing just as fast. Popular little rifle. Must be priced right.

It's not my gun and far be it from me telling anyone on here what to do, but...it does look really good the way it is. Subtle yet impressive.
 
I love my Zastava MP22, but hot damn op that is gorgeous!

And yes, they are tack drivers.

I think I used Circa 1850 when I did mine but it was a long time ago(at least 6 years or more). They may have changed what they are putting on newer models.

Removing a finish by sanding should always be a last option. If the paint stripper is methylene chloride it should remove just about any finish, but unfortunately it's not easy to find any longer. Many current paint strippers are less risky to personal health, more environmentally friendly, less caustic, but somewhat less effective than previous methylene chloride strippers. It's possible the finish is lacquer, which should be easy to remove with lacquer stripper.
