Zastava P10?

The magazine is the same as a regular 7.62x25, or so it seems. But is one round too short.

Zast makes the M57, which is like a TT-33, except a longer mag. I wonder if that mag would work?

I don't have one to try. Maybe one of the dealers that sells the P-10 and the M57 could chime in here.

I got one too...no range report since I haven't gotten my paperwork from Miramachi yet. Seems like a nice quality piece. The balance feels a little like a Hi-Power...the slide/barrel is slim toward the muzzle.

According to the Wolverine videos on YouTube, the M57 mags are the same size, but the feed lips might require some adjustment. Trigger is heavy but breaks fairly cleanly. I sure hope that double fire is unique to that Dum-Dum gun. I wouldn't mind having a set of those grips on his gun, however. There are rubber/plastic grips for the M57 on Ebay...not exactly the same but at least there are alternatives. That being said, the original wood grips seem usable enough.
 
Just got back from the range.

I tried a variety of handloads. 1 mag each of 2 or 3 charge samples of IMR Blue. Longshot, AA9 and Power Pistol.

The big test was with 180 gr plated bullets, plus one small test of the Hornady XTP 180 gr HP over 14.5 of AA9.

Power Pistol was a bust. I can usually put all the shot in the black. These shots would not hold the 3 foot by 4 foot backer...

9.5 of Long Shot was too hot for comfort.

As was the 180 XTP with 14.5 AAP, but they did group well.

The 2 best groups were 14 AA9 and 11 IMR Blue.

I will try both of those again, along with 0.5 gr lighter.

The pistol.

It shot well. The sliding catch that holds the cross pin would slide off in recoil. I have had the same problem with some other Tokarov pistols. I solved the problem by turning the retaining clip around.

Trigger and sights were good.

Elevation was bang on. It shot 6" left. I can adjust the rear sight.

Full power ammo is too uncomfortable for plinking fun. It would be ok as a bear defense carry gun.

I shot some very hot 40S&W ammo. It was about right for plinking power and fun. (180 gr @ 1100 fps)
 
Hey Ganderite, your 9.5 grain longshot load is NOT safe. Hodgdon has recently updated the data. 8.2 is max with a Sierra JHC. Its a load I used for almost a decade. I wondered why my 1911 10mms broke slide stops so often. It was probably the 48,000psi loads I was running. I spoke to Hodgdon directly and they didn't say much other than they retested some old, suspect data. 9.5 is significantly overpressure at 1.260" with a lot of FMJs let alone the relatively long XTP.

Mag fits, rounds won't go in, you can push them down about an inch , they spread the sides of the mag, but they won't go to the back of the mag, too narrow, I suppose someone could try to put a proper sized block in and widen the back but then the sides would have to be reformed etc, etc, I can't see it being very reliable even if that worked!
 
14.0 AA9 over a 180 plated (not FMJ) gave 1260 fps. This is close to full power, and was not a comfortable round to shoot.

A FMJ would need about 13gr.

Whoever thought this would be a good rank and file police cartridge was nuts.

That said, the pistol is cheap and it works just fine. I have moved the rear sight a bit (easy to do) and it now shoots to POA.
 
As far as comfort goes, most 10mms aren't as small and light as the P10. I would agree that it's pretty silly to think the average FBI officer was going to become comfortable with such a powerful cartridge.

Yes, full power loads even in my Sig P220 have a respectable recoil. An experienced, proficient shooter could probably handle it, but anybody who has seen the struggles police trainers have getting recruits through qualification rounds would realize it's a non-starter.

Very hard to wait to try mine out...
 
Shot it again. Ouch!

180gr plated bullet. Data not valid for jacketed.

14.0 AA9 hurts

13.5 AA9 hurts a bit less and is quite accurate

IMR Blu so far is not grouping

I will try some Longshot.

Turning the clip around solved the problem of the clip coming off the pin.

I get some slide bite. I have big fat hands.

Did you mean 13.5 Ganderite? I used 14 grains under a Winchester Silvertip looking back at my data. It's was a fantastic load looking at my notes but I was also using a Glock 20 which is a pretty robust pistol.

The 38 super is slightly rimmed and has a larger OD rim than the 9mm. I wouldn't consider that as comparable to shooting 40 out of a 10, or 45 out of a 460, or 38 sp out of a 357.
