Zastava z98 opinions

I think I would like a M-70 Mannlicher stainless :O in 9.3 x 62!!

I can appreciate the benefits of something in stainless, and while I have a couple, they are not anywhere near a first choice for me. Not a fan of plastic & stainless.;)I'm from the 'pre-metric' era and prefer nicely figured wood and blued steel.

Same with me. While I'm not old enough to be pre-metric, I still prefer a nicely blued and polished rifle with a nice chunk of wood on it over plastic and stainless. I have several stainless/synthetic and blued/synthetic rifles but they are mostly for the practicality when hunting in poor weather. I'm really picky when it comes to the care and treatment of my rifles so the stainless/synthetic just gives me peace of mind, when I'm hunting in rain or snow, that I'm not damaging them.

:) Me as well. However, I've compromised a little, stainless & wood:p. I picked up this Marlin 1895GS in 45-70 as it's, potent, somewhat weather resistant and fits just right on the front of my quad in the handle bar gun rack.

This other stainless and wood combo, it was all I could get a hold of at the time, at a fairly inexpensive price tag, in a varmint rifle configuration and the calibre I wanted, 25-06. And, it shoots not too bad.

I have one stainless/wood rifle as well but it's a limited edition and I'm a bit leery of hunting with it. I have shot it a few times at the range but have yet to take it out in the field. One of these days I might take it to the stand and that way there will be little chance of something happening to it like me tripping and falling and bashing it on a rock.:p

I do like the stainless wood look though.

As I've mentioned, I do have a couple of rifles in SS as well as a few handguns. Nothing really against SS except after a good many years of looking at blued steel, looking at something in SS, it almost seems as though it left the factory before it could be blued. However, what you have pictured looks pretty good. Details?? Remington??

I'm a blued / wood guy, but, I too, don't like taking them in bad weather (but I did many times :) ). I was more than happy that Impex imported the last batch of Zastava, as nothing existed yet as real M/98 / SS before them, and that was even better as they imported a bunch of 9.3X62 to add to my herd.

BTW, be prepared for a shock for the new imported ones prices.... sounds like it will also be the same for Cz...

It's a Ruger Hawkeye, Lipsey's limited edition in 7x57. I mounted a Leupold VXIII 1.5-5x20 on it and it shoots pretty good with the mild handload I fired through it a couple times.

glad i buy some before that increases ....

From what I know for now, there may be a slight case of someone being somwhat greedy... but the same persons kicked so many rifle on the market at a fire sale price so they didn't help themseleves...

My rem798's barrel action is made by zastava. Overall I am pleased. Much nicer blueing then most other manufacturers. Only compliant I have is that the screws for the scope base was WAY WAY off and I had to get it fixed by a smith.

Love them as long as they stay around the price they go for now.

If you are interested in a Zastava you should be aware that the stock length off pull on them is greater than a lot of other rifles, at least on the full stock M70. I found that they did not fit me very well.

The scope mount base attachment hole alignment on my full stock M70 in .366 Wagner is fine. The stock pull length is a touch on the long side and may prove to be an issue if I was hunting in very cold conditions and wearing a heavy jacket or coat. I'll leave it as is for the time being but may shorten it in future. If and when I do, there's another slight stock modification I may do at the same time. That would be to take down or lower the height of the comb a little. For mounts I've used a set of Weaver pivot mounts and using the open sights, the comb is a little too high for my liking.
In a number of previous posts, I've already made mention of some of the other short comings and an overall bang for the buck evaluation to my way of thinking. Hopefully, ;)some field use in the not too distant future:).
