Zeiss conquest .....never again...............

Bought a Zeiss conquest 4.5-14x44 Z-800 last year.
Didn’t use it at all, since few week ago to get ready for hunting season.
Sighting-in perfectly at 100 yard, than tried it at 400 yard and the line #4, was bang on.
I bought this scope because of all the review I was reading.
Indeed; awesome scope, very clear/bright.
But this thing is weak has a toothpick.
I am in full hunting mode right now, I took 2 weeks off only for this.
Today I'm at the beginning of day 4...
Only saw black bears and does, no big buck yet.
As I`m walking I heard a metal noise clicking.
I taught it was my sling swivel, after few minutes to try different trick to solve that issue.
I notice shacking the rifle, it was coming for the scope.
I looked in it from both side, and OMFG !
I don’t see Cheet in it, image is all crocked and there is a piece
Literally loose and rattling in the objective.
I’m in the middle of the rut, looking for my buck and my $$$ ZEISS $$$
Broke down.
I would say it’s a POS, but I can see the blades coming from everywhere.
So I will not say it.
What am I going to do now ?
My scope is USELESS, ( $1000)
Warranty will take week, even more (Canada)
My hunting season is scrap because of ZEISS.
Next time, I will add RELIABILITY to my next riflescope shopping list.

There isn't a single company, that hasn't produced a dud, and apparently you found one. I have owned eight Conquests with no issues, at all. I have seen isolated issues with several brands, including Leupold. This is exactly why ,I always take two rifles on every hunting trip.
 
Go to the store if you can, buy an inexpensive scope, take the broken scope off, sight back in with the inexpensive scope.
Keep that cheap scope around as a spare. This will be a bit of a pain, but you'll get back out hunting.

Good for you Stubblejumper, You work at Fort Macmoney $$$, I have a (normal) work and I proudly take care of my three 3 kids, I saved my money for over a year to afford this scope, and you think peoples should get two rifle just in case?
I spent $1100 to make sure I never had an issue like I got previously on a cheap Bushnell.
BTW, I cant afford neither to go on hunting trip, I hunt in my immediate surrounding area.
Anyway, thanks for your support

I'm pretty sure its the paint job on the axis that caused the failure :)
Seriously though, yeah, that sucks when you only have a short time off for hunting and that's why I never go with only one gun....shyt happens!

Sorry about your scope.

Every manufacturer has a lemon once in a while.

More bad news - I sent in a Zeiss 4-14x50 last year and it took almost four months to get back, not a week as you indicated. :(
 
Sorry to hear about your luck.
I second the opinion though to have a really cheap Tasco or Simmons scope as backup and just switch. Even when out hunting for a day I have the wrenches for my rings and a bore sighter in the truck. Ask me how I learned to do that.

I used to swear by the Conquest scopes and I still love them for the quality.
Last few years I had two go back for free warranty work though. I'm starting to wonder if US-assembled Conquests are worth it.

I have now a Minox ZA 3 on my primary hunting rifle. Clarity and quality is certainly comparable or better.
How long it will hold up to abuse we shall see.

I'm scoping one more rifle I just got and may go with Steiner. The scopes look nice. I also have pair of Steiner binoculars
that have been hunting with me for a long time. It's a rubberized old predator model they don't even make anymore and I have
truly abused it. Hoping their rifle scopes are similar.

Not be a prick, but you chose your life and the responsibilities it entails. If hunting was a priority you would find the funds to run spare gear or as in this case, simply accept the fact that sh*t happens..

No one ever said that? Its a simple fact that cheap Chinese crap fails FAR more often than quality stuff.

Sounds like you are blaming Zeiss for ruining your year , this is life.

Also, some folks have worked very hard for where they are, I am not saying you haven't but stubblejummper doesn't deserve that tone.

Maybe someone could loan you a rifle, even one with iron sights to get you buy.

IMO if you are looking for the best in reliability , a fixed 4x, 6x, 10x are far more robust and reliable for receiving a beating.

We sell Zeiss and in 4 years I've never seen one do that, if you send it in over the Winter I'm sure they'll try to fix it for you or just flat out replace it with one of the new Conquest HD5 models (same as Conquest but with the Lotustech hydrophobic coating they used to only use on the Victory series). It's not a great solution, but it's a solution.
 
Oh, and the current Conquest HD5 scopes are designed, manufactured, and assembled at the German facility, not the American or Japanese one, so it's a bit of peace of mind. Otherwise if you go to a Bushnell Elite 6500 (do not get a Banner/Dusk to Dawn/or anything they sell in a blister pack), or Leupold VX3, you'll get pretty close to the quality you have with Zeiss. Bushnell will be heavier, Leupold will not be as clear but I doubt you'd notice a difference, and both have lifetime warranties.
 
I recently converted all my scopes to quick-detach rings. My two favourite rifles have two scopes sighted in, each (only because I can't decide on which reticles I like better...)
 
That is not the norm for Zeiss, or Classic Conquest stuff. It's understandable that you're p*ssed/frustrated, and the *only* time things will go wrong, is at the worst time (i.e. in the middle of hunting season). The law of large numbers and probability dictates that even with the best QC, sooner or later someone is going to get boned - despite spending money on the very best available.

The immediate concern is getting you back out there hunting. Have you contacted the dealer from whom you purchased the scope? What sort of support have they offered you? Assuming that they are an authorized Canadian dealer for Zeiss, you are covered warranty wise and depending upon their level of customer service, they might be inclined to help you out in the short term.
 
Where are you hunting? I assume its on the Island but if your anywhere near the LMD I would happily lend you a scope, even run it out part way to you.
I would hate for that to happen to me, but I take two rifles. Even if one is just iron sights.

TDC[/QUOTE]It is also a simple fact that most Chinese made scopes are designed for less recoil like air soft and rim fires, not for high power center fire rifles, but a Ziess scope $$$$fail???!. I wouldn't called Chinese made crap anymore.:redface:
