Zeiss Conquest scope opinions?

A question on rings, if I go with the 50, the supplier is recommending Talley Lightweight Low or Extra low rings? The Talley website doesnt have pictures of both of these.

Whats the best ring for this bellsize low? Will the extra low still have clearance?

How low is extra low? I looked at the Talley specs and cant quite visualize it. Its for a Winchester 70 Featherweight.

Zeiss also claims that their scopes are water tight even without the turret covers on. Plastic or not - I think they are the best scopes for the money.

50mm Objective, Rem varmint contour barrel, with Butler Creek cover, on a rem 700 , I have Burris signature MED rings. The insert actually raises your center of the scope slightly, they may work in a low for you.

I recently bought a Conquest 3x9 - 40 mm. Like others have said, it seems equal to or better than other scopes in that price range.

So far I'm happy with it. Before buying it I read reviews that mentioned the plastic caps. I can't see a problem with those parts being plastic; after all, I'm not planning on pounding nails with the scope. Overall, it seems as rugged and strong as any other scope I've seen. After several scope failures (other brands), I've come to realize that one has to be careful with them all or one will soon be looking for a new scope.

The Zeiss sighted in well and has a nice clear, crisp image. One thing I did notice was that one click on the adjustment did not equal 1/4 inch on the target at 100 yards. One click was more like 1/8 inch, or even less.

I mounted a Zeiss 6.5-20x50 with Talley extra lows on a Model 70 Coyote Light. It fit but I can't put the factory scope cover on the front.

6.5 x 20 x 50 ziess

I have a 6.5 x 20 x 50 ziess the 6500 bushnell and a 8 x 32 x 56 nxs night force. the ziess and bushnell are about the same price the nightforce is almost double. I still beleive the ziess has the best glass. The only problem I have with it is not enough internal adjustment for longrange shooting

so if I want flip up covers or similar I probably want low and not extra low rings?

Yes, I'd say so. The scope I mounted is long bodied and depending upon how you set your scope for eye relief the bell might still come close to the barrel.

The Zeiss doesn't have plastic turret caps if you get them to swap out the factory knobs for exposed target turrets ;)

My Vortex Viper is equal to, if not slightly brighter than, my Conquest at last light, but the Conquest has better resolution than the Viper. Both are 3-9x40.

Whats the target turret option cost? I was originally planning on just getting a .270 and zeroing for 200 yards and leaving it.

I dont have enough hunting experience to take much longer shots yet.

You'll be fine with the covers it has, it is just something that people pick on when they need to ##### about something.;)

I have had both metal and plastic, if you are in a hunting situation you best not be playin with your caps in the field, scope should be set and ready to go. No difference between the two unless you want to lick them at -20.

FYI, there is a 20 minute video on youtube of the Zeiss factory where they make all their glass and some scopes. When you watch it you will be sold right there. Seems they take quality control a bit more serious than the N.American manufacturers from the videos of have seen of various manufacturing plants.

I too was thinking of getting the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40, it will be mounted on a Tikka T3 Varmint .223Rem. Would 3-9 be enough magnification to see coyote and ground hog sized targets clearly 300 yards away?

I put a 3-9x40 on my Sako 338WM
it is a great scope. very bright and clear with no moisture or fogging issues and it can take a beating.
I live in Prince Rupert, rain capitol of the planet and I hunt on the lower Skeena river, an area even wetter in October. The rifle is beat around in aluminum boats soaked all day and dragged through ugly tight bush as well. This scope came through with flying colors, several Leopolds hold their own here as well but I believe mine is brighter and it was definately cheaper.
Anything bushnell is toast in no time...

I think the Zeiss Conquest is hard to beat.I have 3x9 and 3.5 x 44.As for low light, bad weather and all other hunting conditions it is the best you can get for the price.

A 3-9 is enough for shooting coyotes at 500 yards.

Bottom line, Zeiss scopes for hunting are the best damn things you can get right now!!! ;)

I found that if you give them an honest try against the others in the same price/application you will be hard pressed to find something better.
