Zeiss Duralyt coming to NA

They look weird. The tube length between the objective bell and windage/elevation adjustment box looks awfully short, especially on the 2-8. Maybe it's just the pics.

The regular Conquest has pretty good optics, these would have to be near Victory clarity to justify increase in price. I wonder if they're using Victory 30mm or Conquest 1" internals/lenses? My guess is to print "Made in Germany" on it, use regular Conquest internals in a 30mm tube which everyone thinks is better for low light and increase price by 1/3.

The short length is interesting - kind of like the Schmidt & Bender Zenith series. The Zenith 2.5-10x56 is only 12.8" long; the Duralyt 3-12x50 is 13.66" and the same Zenith is 13.5".

According to Zeiss the MSRP are as follows:

Conquest 2.5-10x50 - $749.99
Duralyt 3-12x50 - $1049.99
Conquest 3-12x56 - $999.99
Diavari 3-12x56 - $1899.99
Diavari 2.5-10x50 - $1799.99

The other thing is that illumination is available, whereas on the Conquest it is not.

Taking the Duralyt out into the early autumn evening and comparing it to my Swarovski Z6i 2-12x50 showed that there was not a lot of difference in colour balance, clarity and image quality.

OK readers will know I rate and use Swarovski products, but I am also objective. Out at 450-yards I was spotting #### pheasants and their shiny copper plumage along with the reds and other colours really came across. The Z6i had the edge but not by a lot! As it got darker this became more apparent but by then I was approaching the limit on both scopes in terms of seeing a target and being able to aim and shoot accurately. Optically the Duralyt is an impressive product no doubt.
