What are your thoughts on how these compare to newer optics? From what I can see they were originally released around 2012.

I have the opportunity to buy a used (mint condition) Zeiss Duralyt 3-12x50 illuminated reticle for $1000.

Would this be much better than something like the Leupold VX Freedom series? Or would newer and cheaper optics be roughly the same at this point?

My concern would be recouping your interests if you decided you dint like it?
What if it chit the bed?
What would the warranty exercises be?

This scope somewhat has a warranty with exceptions

"Limited Lifetime Transferable Warranty:

ZEISS Sports Optics Optical Systems are warranted against defects in workmanship and materials for the life of the Product"

I'll be able to try it out to make sure I like it before buying

One of the worst companies to deal with in regards to warranty

don't buy zeiss their warranty is BS i just tried to get warranty with a zeiss spotting scope . it was 6yrs old never seen hard service i paid to send it
to the canadian service depot they forwarded to zeiss US , they claimed that they never seen it before and wouldn't cover it

I have two Zeiss duralyt 3-12x50 scopes. One on a 270 Ruger and the other on a 257 Weatherby. Neither have the illuminated reticle and both about 8-10 years old. I’d buy one again and 1k with illuminated reticle seems like a deal

Maybe the serial number was the problem. Youcan go online to find if the serial number is real or Chinesium. I’m not saying this to anger you but there’s lots of fakes out there and many are very well done. Maybe that’s the case and if so could be taken up with seller?

They have to go to the USA, then to Europe for repairs. It's infuriating if you are waiting on something for a hunt. Still a great scope.

its a real zeiss ahole

Wow, good to know, I have always considered a zeiss but if the c.s. is that bad I'll stick to my swaro's, has always been no questions asked repairs even for parts I lost

What do you guys think about Meopta? Thinking of getting an Optika 5 for $499.00

Heard some really good things, that they are on par with higher end scopes
