Is a West German Zeiss superior to a newer Zeiss. Have the option of purchasing a West German Diavari C 3x9 for 400 bucks or may go new. Only thing is reticle is a cross hair on the West German scope.Your Thoughts.

The German made Diavari C scopes with the "T" lens coatings are a step up from the Conquests, but I wouldn't put them ahead of the current Diavaris.

If it's in good shape, you can't go wrong with a Diavari C 3x9 for $400. I just picked up new Victory Diavari FL 4-16x50mm last weekend and it's not of lesser quality than any older Diavari I've handled. The ASV hunting turret is a very good feature on the newer Diavari . The scope quality and image clarity is as good as my Schmidt & Bender if not better. I'm waiting for a set of EAW pivot mounts to install it.

I also have a Conquest on my Sako and it's not a bad scope either, the glass is of lower quality than the Diavaris but it was marketed to make Zeiss scopes more affordable and available to the general public, not to compete with high end Zeiss scopes.
