zeiss terra

I think when Zeiss has been know for decades to be a quality item then they went to China for the Terra Line up and chinese generally equal garbage in the consumer minds. Scorpion optics come from China...Zeiss shouldn't. They are just peddling junk on their name and tarnishing it.

Terra scopes are made in Japan, not China. Nothing wrong with them; they are great scopes for the money.

China? Really? For the money they are decent. Wouldn't be my first choice.

Zeiss packaging says they are made in Japan.
Some of the ones on EE show the Zeiss label..states "Made in Japan".

I would say there are better options in that price range - Nikon for example, perhaps Burris. I have a Terra, it shook the cross hairs loose within 6 months on my K31 and 7mm MAG. When I sent it in for warranty, I was told that it would probably take up to 8 months to get it back. I bought a Nikon Monarch 3 as I needed something for hunting and the glass is much better. I did get a replacement Terra after 2 or 3 months - it now sits on 7.62 rifle for my sons, it seems to be able to handle that minimal recoil.

Bought a Terra 3-9 as a back up scope last year as I have nothing to put it on right now. Seems clear to me and for the sale price of $275 I don't think I'd find anything as good. However Basspro has Leupold VX1's on for $219 right now in their flyer which doesn't seem like a bad deal either.

there were a bunch of super sales last year on the terras 3x9 and 4x12 for under 300 with tax and shipped (after rebates).People possibly just cashing in

I think the reason so many of them are on currently on EE is because they are a great starter scope. I outfitted all my rifles with Zeiss Terra's when I started because it was great glass at a good price point. As time went on and I was able to buy more expensive scopes I started to sell mine on EE. I dont think they are being sold because they arent good quality but because people are upgrading. Thats my experience.

I bought one to try out and am impressed with the quality for the price. Zeiss isn't going to put their name on junk and as far as comparing it to a vx1 you should know that most Leupold lenses come from Asia. The Philippines produces high quality glass for most of the American optics manufacturers. The Terra line was introduced to make owning a Zeiss scope a bit more affordable and to compete with other brands in the same price range. I have scopes of all brands and price ranges and even though the Terra isn't in the same category as the Conquest it is a quality scope for the price and you can bet that Zeiss will back anything with their name on it.
I would like to know why people are so quick to criticize without reading any of the reviews or looking through one at their local gun shop to compare with what else is available in the same price range.

Ran across this discussion of the Zeiss Terra line on the Optics Talk Forum. Most of the guys that post there have pretty detailed knowledge about scopes, and it's a great forum to go to when considering a new scope. The Moderator, Koshkin, is particularly knowledgeable, and labels the Terra line as a "monumental turd." Check Posts 3, 5, and 6.

The first is a use review, the second feels like a advertisement for a paying sponsor.

I have a conquest and a diavari. When you are scoping many rifles, not everyone can wear $1000 glass. For me the king of lowprice value has been the Bushnell elite line. Sadly, they are also being phased out for phillipine labour over japanese quality with the new engage line.

i have a 3x9 terra in my hands. probably better than i was thinking it would be. i would say pretty close to my vx2 leup but a little heavier. i like the quick focus objective. i'm going to mount on a 270 so its not going to get a pounding. if the price was right i would buy another.
