Zeiss vs. Leupold

My dad lives by the Bass Pro Shop at Balzac (Calgary area) and though i do know the bass pro's website is in American dollars i can't help but notice that even after the conversion it is much cheaper buying a lot of things there than at Wholesale Sports. Anyways at bass pro's I was looking at some scopes I want to put on a 338 win mag, and the Leupold VX3 (3.5-10x40/Boone and Crockett reticle) and the Zeiss Conquest (3-9x40/RZ 600 reticle) are identical prices (at least online). Which would you get? Any advice is welcome.

Warranty! Drive over your Leupold with your truck ( accidentally of course) Leupold will fix your scope, quickly,no hassle. Warranty is forever, whatever, can't be beat. I have both brands and Zeiss glass a little brighter, but I have lots more confidence in Leupold.
 
I have Leupolds on everything, great product, absolutly fricking awesome service. I worked a gun counter for a few years and Leupolds service was so much better than ANYONE else in the optics game its not even close. Had a number of guys buy Leupolds while wating to get the ______ (insert other make) back, sometimes months.
 
I lean towards the Zeiss. Never broke one, never saw one broken. Zeiss have better optics and better controls in my opinion. But they are huge scopes, and do not fit some of my rifles, so those wear Leupolds, which work very well too.
Leupolds are slimmer and do "look" better to me, but that's just taste.

Good friend of mine shook a Zeiss 3x9 Conquest to pieces on his 300 Win Mag. They did give him a new scope, but the wait was substantial. IIRC, about 5 months. Leupold would have had it back to him in 10 days. Regards, Eagleye
 
You are in Edmonton. Leupold warranty center is near Calgary, IF you ever need it. Yes, Zeiss glass will be a bit clearer, but from the warranty and customer service side of things, Leupold wins hands down.
 
I had to send in a pair of Zeiss binos for warranty work and the service was was excellent. This is back when Kinderman was the importer, they had me send the binos to them in Ontario so I didn't have to worry about customs paperwork. Kindermann sent the binos down to Virgina where the Zeiss repair facility was/is. I had the binos back within 3-4 weeks, no fuss, no charge, just perfect service.

Yep. But the scale is still worthwhile as it gives relative rankings between optics.

There will always be some feature that is the most important to some shooters. Such as repeatable windage/elevation tracking for long range shooters is crucial.
 
Zeiss for sure. I have 2 and the clarity is great.
I had to send one back for warranty service.(debris on the glass) No problems what so ever. Gentic took care of all the paperwork sending it to the US.
 
I'd buy Zeiss myself. Bought a used Diavari off of the EE,can't believe the clarity of it compared to the other scopes I've owned and used.

But I'd say go with the reticle you like the best.
 
For all you guys that praise the warrenty, tell me what the hell good is a warrenty when your out in the field hunting and you have a failure. Hell Bushnell have a lifetime warrenty on all their scopes from what I've been reading lately I'd be buying an Elite 4200 0r 6500 they can't be beat optically for the money and they take tons of abuse and just keep on working. I know I have a few and you just can't hurt them.
