I figure I'd add my experience here

I own 3 Zeiss scopes and I won't be buying another. I have an hd5 scope and it was mounted to a rifle which I had leaning on my wall and it slid down my wall. After that the sunshade wouldn't come off so I sent it in willing to pay for any repairs since it was my own doing.

Here's the response I got back.

Zeiss has completed the inspection of your Conquest HD5 5-25x50 (Reticle RZ1000, Exposed Adjustments), Serial # ###### and has determined that your optic is either beyond economic repair or not repairable.

If you would like to purchase a similar item at a discount we can off the Conquest V4 6-24x50 ZBi - Illum. Reticle #68 - Ext. Elev. - Ballistic Stop - Ext. Locking Windage (522955-9968-090) for $1618.91.

Please let me know if you are interested and I will forward the payment link, thank you!

I email back asking what was not repairable. And I got no reply. The lack of answers with the in my opinion minimal discount on their replacement option ("like new" used selling for less) is not what I would expect from a higher tier scope company.

I was looking to get a Zeiss lrp S3 for my new build but with Leicas newish warranty (20 years no fault and 30 years manufacture defect) I'll be trying a PRS from them instead.

Can you send it somewhere else? A different city/country/office for a 2nd opinion?
Some duche probably just having a bad day and told you no luck.

It's supposed to be getting shipped back to me so I'll see. Apparently it was sent to Germany but I can't say for certain that it actually was. I just thought I'd post my experience for others to see.

I suppose one could argue that it was nice of them to try to sell me a scope at a discount, but for the prices of their scopes (this was the cheapest of the three) I can tell you I won't be buying any more.

These are the guys you gotta talk to. Look up their number and give em' a call. They'll give better advise than on this forum.

I owned zeiss. swarovski , smith and bender , leupold, redfield. I now use meopta scopes and would not go back to any of those that I mentioned.

I did send it to gentec. Theyre just a third party shipper for zeiss
Ok. I guess Gentec as the middle man doesn't receive that much info from the factory.

I would try to reach out Zeiss in Europe and see if they could give you more info.

Not sure how many European scope maker covers damages made by customers like many American scope maker do. Maybe consider local brand like Apex or Vortex from US around similar price?

So the sunshade is seized on and they deem the scope un-usable/repairable? I think I would just say to return it and will use as is, and not buy anymore of their products again.

Sounds like these companies that make these expensive $400 non-stick frying pans with lifetime warranty and a year later when they start to stick you claim warranty and they offer to sell you a new one at a discount.

Gentec is where you should contact for service in Canada, sending it to Europe does not seem right.

I'm not asking for help, I'm just posting my experience with their warranty. In my original post I stated I was willing to pay as I did to them as well. I knew it was my fault. But from so little of a bump on a "premium European scope" brand. For them to say broken beyond repair but we'll sell you a scope that you can buy cheaper "new used" doesn't sit well with me.

Leicas warranty cover 10 years no fault.

As for American brands, sure lots of people like them but in these times I'm not buying American and I can't justify spending the money it takes to buy Canadian.

PS vortex warranty is great but their quality is terrible. Out of 4 optics my buddy has bought his spotting scope had a whole fly somewhere between lenses. You could only see it looking down the objective side (just a blurry spot looking through the eye piece. And one of his three rifle scopes has a bugs leg between 2 lenses. It's not noticable looking through but when looking through the objective it's there plain as day.

It is allegedly being shipped back, however I haven't received it yet. Using as is is my intention now.

$400? The scope in question was ~1500 new.

I wasn’t saying your scope is worth $400 I was making a warranty comparison between the Zeiss company and other manufacturers for example like Gastrolux for example that sell these $400 non stick fry pans with a lifetime warranty but when you try to claim warranty for a sticky fry pan they offer to sell you another one at a discount.

Sad to hear this. I grabbed a v6 before Christmas for a good price but I hoped that their warranty would be solid.

I really don't know what the issue is here... ?

As I suggested, just call the guys in Oberndorf. They all speak pretty good English and German.
