I will be scoping and sighting in my 12FV in 22-250 in the next few weeks and I am wondering what zero you guys use if the gun is to be used on gophers and yotes? Being 3" high @ 100yds is OK for big game, but it strikes me that I want to be maybe 1" high max out to my zero, then just use holdover to hit the longer shots. Is that a reasonable setup?

Thanks,
Mark

I have always had my scopes set to 100 yard Zero, thats just me, then I'm not thinking 1" high at a hundred 3" at 300 less bullet drop and so on, so set at a hundred I just use my scope adjustments, and bullet drop, I think it makes person a better shooter, I maybe wrong though. :) Remember it's a gopher so it has to be pretty precise:)

I sight-in dead on at 200, then go back to 100 and see what the POI there is. Somehow it always to be a lot lower than the programs predict.
A coyote has less room for elevation error than a standing gopher.

Maximum point blank range.

I don't know why people do not use this. For my .204 my MPBR zero is 285yd that is good to hold dead on out to 325yds.

MPBR depends on how much deviation from line of sight you are willing to tolerate. As I stated in my original post, 3" high @ 100yds is fine for big game, but will cause a miss on a gopher.

How high is your .204 at 125yds or 150yds?

I have the exact same gun with a Leupold Mark 4 on it. I was shooting gofers this summer with it.

I sighted it in a 2.5" high at a 100, with my handloads I was getting 3,600fps and my zero mark was 325 yds. This gun is amazing with accuracy. It loves the Nozler BT 50gr.

I took it shooting gofers in MB this summer and only brought 100 rounds. I was shooting anywhere from 300 yards and less. Lets just say there is about 85 less gofers in the farmers field. I was amazed with its accuracy.

Good luck and have fun

I sight my varmint rifles 1½" high at 100, and go from there. Some of the newer ranging reticules help considerably for the longer shots, but I have used this sight setting to minimize guesswork for many years, and it has always worked well for me. It helps avoid those "high" misses at midrange on smaller targets. Regards, Eagleye.

with my 22-250. i have it sighted in dead on at 50 yards , its set up for when i hunt coyotes. calling them in with my predator calls. i tested it at 100 yards and 200 yards .about .75 high at 100 yards and dead on at 200. so anything from zero to 200 yards is dead.
