Zeroing distance

Of all the cheap bullets on the market the WWB 45 gr at 3600 fps is pretty good in all of my 223, one inch or so at 100 metres ... JP.

I'm going to grab some before I go out next.

^This... the likelyhood of having a shot present itself here at anything avor 3-400 yards isunlikely... and even then you are setting yourself up for that shot....

Frumpy, your plan to site in at 200 is the way to go... then practice out to 400 for s**ts an dgrins and you will be set for almost anything around here...

200 it is, I guess I was just thinking out to 600 since that's what my range goes up to (and can regularly practice up to that distance). I guess 400 max for actually hunting is more practical.

I recently zeroed my .223 for 200. I had it zeroed for 100 out of force of habit. Last coyote I saw was at 25 feet and running at me though!

I'll put another vote in for the Winchester white box .223. My rifle really likes it and you can't beat the price.

that's what the 12 ga is for :p

Are you a member at Connaught Frumpy?.... Man, I had some good times there.... nothing like having a few cold pints on the patio while watching the gunner's course fire tracer rounds off the berms at night..... love that place....

25ft is not an issue if you are zeroed at 200 at he pops up unexpectedly.
it's easier to shoot an unexpected dog with what you have in your hands than trying to drop it and go for a shotgun.
I've never packed a shotgun in 40 years when varmint hunting , be it on the prairie or in the bush, must be a recent thing....

I am also a big fan of isnipe, and more so bulletflight. if you are going to shoot longer distances you want ammo that groups well ... What ever that happens to be. I've always been a fan of the hornady v-max and recently the federal premium with nosler ballistic tip projectiles. Both group extremely well and are devastating on small to medium game. IMO well worth the extra cash as I hate ammo/rifles that aren't accurate. The barrel twist will also dictate your starting ammo weights.
