hey guys im having issue getting a proper zero on my norinco cq,
now I had it perfectly zeroed at 45yrds, but i cant for the life of me get it zeroed at 300, just went through almost 100 rnds trying. I took my 30 06 with me, and had no issues zeroing it and getting fist sized groups at 300 yrds without a bench rest or taking a particularly long time to aim. and it took maybe 5 shots to zero. I cant even get the norinco on paper (standard loose leaf sized paper used for target)

so i have the following questions

-is it possible my barrel is just shot out cause it's a crappy norinco and ive shot ~1000 .223 rounds through and about 5k+ of .22 lr

-i have my Bushnell holographic sight as far back on the mounting rail as I can, is that maybe an issue w parralax or something?

-am i just using the wrong scope for the job? the holographic i know is a CQB type sight, and maybe the unlimited eye relief and such are just bad for longer ranges.

any constructive advice or theories are welcome,
 
I can't speak of the scope or the rifle as I have neither, but I have a few ideas. With something flat shooting like a 223, zero at 25 and you should be easily on paper at 100 meters. So zero at 25, let rifle cool for 5 minutes. Shoot at 100. Let cool, shoot at 125 or 150 and keep going. I'd also use a bigger target, with a healthy chunk of cardboard behind it to see where the bullets are going.
 
A 45 yd zero should be roughly equivalent also to a 225 yd zero. Aim at the top of the 300 yd paper and you should be on, provided your zeroing job is good.

And use a bigger target so you can see where you're actually ending up.
 
yeah, as I left the range I was kicking myself for not bringing bigger paper, and believe me... I did TRY to tape a bunch side by side, but the wind was not being kind.

see this is why im having a hell of a time, cause it was zeroed perfect at 45yrds already, and yeah that should have been good to about 200 or so I thought, towards the end i just zeroed it on dirt, got one shot on paper, but low, but i was outtta ammo. Ill just have to pick up some larger targets and bring more ammo next time. I like the idea of "walking up" the distance too, maybe ill start a bit closer where im not spotting my shots with the 3006's scope.

You would need the rifle to shoot 1 MOA at 300 to even try adjust the sights, if you are shooting groups much bigger then that, which way do you move the impact?

I think he's trying to say; you are using a dot that is 6 to 12 inches wide at 300 yards to aim. Most holo or red dot sights have 2 to 4 moa dot. At 300 yards that is 6 to 12 inches.

Edit: I just looked at the specs on your sight. It is a 1/2 moa dot in the center of the retical. Disregard my nonsense about the size of the dot. ;-)

The bushnell is a 1moa dot which at 300m will cover alot of your target "when you turn the brightness up, the dot gets even bigger"
 
I was gonna say something along the lines of, "ummm trust me my dot doesnt take up that much space"

I'll just have to walk it up instead of trying to jump from 50 -300yrds I was just going about it kinda rushed like i guess.
 
With 3" sight above bore, a 45 yard zero is much the same as a 300 yard zero, 2" above bore aboot 220 yards yes.
So exterior ballistics is not your problem. More likely your sights have shifted. Or some kind of instability issue.
Are you using a particular kind of ammunition?
