Greetings!

Inspired by the RTCC Postal match (ongoing in the Precision Rifle Forum) I have created a postal match for the Black Rifle forum. It is Zombie-themed, which will not appeal to everyone, but Halloween is only 3 months away, after all.

There are 3 stages. Stage 1 is rifle. Stage 2 will use a pistol. Stage 3 will be a rifle again. One per month, starting now.

Here is how it works:

1. Download this month's scenario and print it out (see below).
2. Go to the range and shoot as per the directions.
3. Take a high-resolution digital photo of your targets and email them to me - the address is on the first page of the PDF. (You can take a pic of all sheets at once while they're still mounted if the holes are visible enough. Feel free to circle hard-to-see ones if necessary.) Put the word "zombie" in your subject somewhere to make it easy to find in case my spam filter catches it, thanks.
4. I will score them and post the results here. Please send your results even if they suck! If you really want, I can not post your target - but I want to see how people do. It's important that I know if it's too hard, too easy, etc.

All scores and stage downloads will be edited into this post as they become available.

PS. This is new and a little experimental - there may be some kinks to work out. I ask in advance that you not be discouraged by any speed bumps we may run into. I promise that any difficulties that show themselves will be learned from to make this better. Have fun!

Now go out and shoot! This is open to everyone! :shotgun:

Thanks for all who participated - the match is over.
Download the final scenario (3 of 3) HERE.

Download scenario 2 of 3 HERE.

CURRENT SCORES
Scenario One
Sine Wave: -20 points. Shooting an AR with an ACOG clone, resting elbows on high bench. Target
(Killed 1/3 zombies attacking the family. Then killed 4/5 on one sheet, failing to completely clear an escape path.)

Orvis: -35 points. Shooting an AR with Aimpoint clone, resting elbows on high bench. Target
(Killed 1/3 zombies attacking the family. Then killed 1/5 on a sheet, failing to clear an escape path.)

damndirtyape: 80 points. Shooting an AR with EOTech, bag rest from bench. Target
(Killed 1/3 zombies attacking the family. Then killed 5/5 on a sheet, clearing an escape path.)

damndirtyape: 120 points (Unofficial) Shooting a Savage .223 with Varmint scope, bipod on bench. Target
(Killed 2/3 zombies attacking the family. Cleared 4/5, and 5/5 on two sheets, clearing an escape path.)

The_Ghost226: -160 points Shooting a Stag Arms AR15L with no optics. Target
(No successful head shots, but if they were NOT zombies the score would be +15, not bad at all for iron sights at 300m.)

Scenario Two
Sine Wave: 0 points. Shooting a Grand Power K100. Target
(Eaten by zombies! Ran out of ammo, leaving two alive at the last stage.)

damndirtyape: 110 points Shooting a Glock 17. Target
(Killed all zombies at the 50m mark.)

Orvis: 10 points Shooting a Sig P226R in .40 Target
(Left 1 alive at the 25m mark, so technically got eaten by zombies - but due to how the points are calculated he still gets +10 for stage 2. :D )

The_Ghost226: 120 points Shooting a Sig P226 Target 1 Target 2
(Wiped out the first 3 at 25m with 3 rounds, and wiped out the two at 100m in 4 rounds.)

Scenario Three
Sine Wave: 35 points. Shooting an AR with an ACOG clone, resting elbows on high bench. Target
(13 zombies left alive.)

Orvis: -20 points. Shooting a scoped HK SL-8. Target
(Failed to clear the helicopter sheet of all zombies, so the pilot's dead [-75]. 7 zombies left alive total.)

The_Ghost226: -170 points Shooting a Stag Arms AR15L with no optics. Target
(One successful head shot, failed to clear the helicopter pad.)

damndirtyape: 110 points. Shooting a Colt 16" AR15 with an EOTech from bag & bench. Target
(I have never seen so many near-hits! I decided to score even a touch on the head area as hits when I made the match but this round takes the cake.)

Totals
Sine Wave: +15 points
Orvis: -45 points (not clearing the heli pad sheet on #3 was -75)
The_Ghost226: -210 (would have been +75 if they weren't Zombies!)
damndirtyape: +300 points

Take the results as being reflective of how you decided to shoot. Restricting the stances and positions would certainly have an impact on any future shoots!

This sounds like it could be fun.
Although, I think if you restricted the shooting stances and supports like in the RTCC matches, it would certainlty make it more interesting.

Orvis: True, but I think that will wait until version 2. (Truth be told the two rifle stages have a situation where you are plausibly prone and scoped, and the pistol stage actually does specify that it is off-hand.)

slicknick: Good point! The rings should indeed be on the heads (that bit will definitely be going into version 2.)

Klunk, I don't know why you can't view that link but I can email you the file if you PM me your email address. It's a PDF.

I think this should be fun. Many people have posted pictures of what they call their zombie gun - so give that rockchucker a test run!

This sounds awesome. I will send in my targets if my performance isn't too embarrassing, I suck with rifles.

Are Step 1 and Step 2 shot back to back with no intermission, or can you lollygag while reloading and have a sandwich before the 30 second Step 2 starts? It seems like it should be back to back, but the instructions don't say explicitly.

Great idea, thanks for hosting this match!

sometimes I wish there was a real Zombie epidemic so I could sit on my roof and shoot any hostiles who tried to enter my house... I wouldn't feel bad if they were zombies.

Always be prepared for "Z-day" :D

As long as your not in the city sit on the roof and do the same with Skunks and Coons. As I found out they are more resistant to 12ga buckshot then I thought. I upgraded my Zombie rounds to slugs :D.

Which ones are the Zombies? The ones with the hands out? Does this mean that the ones with no target circles on them are "family members"?

PS - GREAT idea! ;)

Thanks, Jeff/1911.

Thanks, Jeff/1911.

Hands out means "Don't shoot," those are the friendlies. In this case, they would be the family members. The big ones are the parents and the small ones are the children, or maybe polyamorous midget parents with two full grown, regular-sized children, I can't tell.

damndirtyape: Parts 1 and 2 (#1 eliminate the zombies near the family, then #2 clear a path for escape) are indeed intended to be shot back to back, but I don't see any harm in taking a pause to reload a mag or two (for example) between shooting them if you really need to. And thanks! I think this should be fun but thanks are also due to anyone who participates; without you there is no match.

I encourage people to submit their targets even if they suck. This will help refine the match. After all, if no one scores well then obviously it's a little TOO challenging and should maybe be made a little easier.

sxyglock17: Yep! These are on 8.5x11 sheets - but they are mounted at 25m and you're free to shoot prone and scoped if you so wish (only the 2nd match specifies a pistol to be fired offhand only).

Jeff/1911: damndirtyape is correct - the humans are the ones with white hands. That's the "don't shoot" (or "don't you eat me!" in this case).

RobSmith: Too bad about silhouettes not being allowed for you. :bangHead: I don't think the match would really work with only dots. It would.... lose something.

So World War Z is on !! I'll spend the next week in camp at 15 mn from Burns Lake range (1000 m :D ) so when I'll be tired of running to my targets, I'll shoot some Z !

Pictures should include the Z gun too
