zone 56 - bad team hunting

just returned from 56 (N. Sask) and it wasn't the best experience.
we saw no moose and after 3 days we've started to look for whitetail. We got a nice buck within 5 min. and "lucky" enough one of our guys vanished with the buck early in the morning. We were suppose to help each other to get our game but in the end it didn't work.. I came home with a tag soup and a picture of a nice 4x4 buck.:(

There is lot of whitetail and elk in 56 and not too much moose unfortunately.

Now I know I'll be hunting alone in the future or maybe 1 guy and I'll be very selective.
 
You sometimes wonder how some people mange to look in the mirror and not see a total a$$hole. Tough luck.

he shot 3-4 times only to hurt him. Another guy shot again and the buck finally died. That was well before prime time in the forest, and without our help the shooting would've been impossible.

Noobie? Sounds like a guy who doesn't know the Hunting Ethics Code. Looks like nothing went right for him from the beginning and he sure capped it off bad by vanishing!

he wasn't noobie at all. I'm a newbie and really don't believe you're suppose to go home after you get your game, when we hunt as a team

You are da*n right! You go in together, you come out together, you share the work together and you share the spoils together!
There was thread here earlier about communication within a group before heading out on a hunt. Did you guys make it clear within the group the proper arrangements?
 
Wow, flash backs! Had a old guy do the same thing to us, we even helped him load it into the truck, We were all heading back to to the farm house, but he never showed. He went straight home. We found out days later he said it was he last deer and didn't want to share or help the rest of us because we had many years of hunting ahead of us.
 
It happens, once a relatively new fellow to our moose camp took the moose home while we were out getting firewood. Never saw him again. Thankfully.

yes, bush pushing indeed, and the buck came from my direction.
we actually went for moose but we didn't see any so it was time for plan B after 3 days in the forest

We only hunt as a family, whether by blood or by friendship. It takes years to get a good group together, a friend that you swore was reliable can be a total jerk when the hunt is on. Don't give up on getting a great group together because when you do the hunt becomes a great experience even if you don't get an animal.
