I have an ATI dragunov stock, and I just got in from the garage after playing with my hacksaw and files. Now I have a bunch of interestingly shaped pieces that I was going to try to turn into an on-board ammo carrier.

Anybody know how to permanently and solidly join two pieces of zytel? I tested two scraps with ABS cement and it looked like it was going to work after holding together for 5 minutes, but the bond didn't get any stronger after that. 1 hour later I could easily break it.

Do I get to use fire?!?

The only thing I can think of is metal splints bolted or riveted on to hold the pieces together, other then that methinks the stock it is toast. :(

oh no the stock is good and in perfect working order. I just trimmed it down a bit to give it a little bit of a new look, and I have some scraps i want to do something with.

Oh, well that is good news. :)
I'm still unaware of any product that will bond Zytel together, and be strong enough.

Zytel is just a trade name for fiberglass reinforced nylon. You can use heavy duty 2-part epoxy, or that gorilla glue stuff. I've glued a weaver rail into the bayo slot on my ATI folder with Cold Weld reinforced 2-part epoxy, available from Princess Auto for around $6. I mounted a foregrip on the weaver rail and pulled on it to test for movement, needless to say the thing is glued in there SOLID :D Hope that helps!

here's what it was before

this is an ati druganov stock that has been shortened in the buttstock.a segment was cut out of it to shorten the length.it was refastened using to threaded rods, one in top and bottom and then boded with jb weld.

holes were drilled horizontaly to accomondate the rods.the threads give a surface for the jb weld to lock onto,as well the jb weld fills in the joint so you don't see it.

like poweredbybeer says gorilla glue is excellent stuff,i've used it before with good results.
