help me decide on a light for my rifle

Please don't flame me as I'm legitimately curious... what are people using lights for on their restricted firearms? Are there night 3 gun competitions or something? Even a NR rifle can't be shot in the dark can it?

So my first AR is almost complete.

Only thing missing is a white light, i already know where i will put it and i know it will not be a tlr-1 at 12 o clock, this setup doesn't work for me.

I'd like a small sized light around 3.5 or 4 inch long with a momentarily on only tailcap switch (clicky) that gives at least 120 lumens. it will be at 11 o clock on a troy alpha rail but i don't want to use the extra rails that come with it, i want a mount that can be mounted on the top rail, i was thinking maybe a magpul mount.

i'd also like a setup that will allow me to keep my hand in about the same position on the rail as it is now, the mount would be in front or behind the front sight wich will move if needed. for now it is used as kind of a handstop or reference point (as well as a front sight obviously):

The light can't be too long or else it will be too far in front of the muzzle or too far back for me to activate. the inforce wml is interesting, i also looked at the fenix pd22 because of it's size but the tailcap is not momentarily only. Any suggestions are welcome for a light/mount combo.

I have a 10.5 but only have a 10" rail so I lose out on the available rail space and have to mount my light at 10 O'clock.

To be honest I'd stick with your TLR-1. I know you say activation is fussy but you really can't beat a 12 O'clock mounted light that doesn't interfere with your sight picture. If you don't agree, try working some barricades from both sides. It looks like if you move your front sight back one notch you might be able to mount the TLR1. You won't lose out that much on recoil control, especially if you add a hand stop.

If you want a more robust light go with a Surefire x300.

I know this is a bit of a necro thread bump but I didn't want to start a whole new thread.

I just came into a legacy Colt A2 upper with a Surefire M500A IR/White handguards on it. Any idea the value of one of these?

Upper is Colt "CM" marked A2 upper, unmarked 11.5" barrel, A2 style FSB, carbine length gas tube and a ALM marked bolt and the surefire handguards/lights.

Any idea the value complete or the sum of all parts at least? The surefire handguard lights I have never seen before.

On a rifle more light is better IMHO.

I'm running a 960 lumen Fenix PD35 in a Fenix mount on my MR-1. I have ditched the tape switch and just run with the regular push button tail cap and the light at 9 o'clock.

It turns night into day.

I run it with free scavenged 18650 rechargeable Li ion batteries so I can train with it as much as I like.

I'm going to junk the Surefire 6P that I have on my CQ-A in an Elzeta mount and replace it with another PD-35.
