Depriming live primers?

I have loaded several 30-06 cartridges, but I re worked the brass after I messed up the neck sizing... The neck tensions are going to be inconsistent, so I've decided to pull the bullets and dispose of the brass, and start from scratch. I can't find any info regarding decapping live primers, is this doable or is it safer to toss them too?

Either way, safety glasses on...

Thanks!

Completely doable. Go gently and wear your safety glasses. I have had some primers fall apart but most of them remain intact and can be used for practice ammo or other non-critical application.

The primers will detonate and kill everyone in a 10km radius. Don't do it!
I read it on the internet, it has to be true!
[/sarcasm]

I've deprimed probably 200 live primers in the past 2 years. I'd say 3 in 100 of the anvils fell out (mix of CCI and Winchester primers).
I wouldn't use them for hunting or competition loads but use them for target loads for punching paper to great success.

Agree with everyone, I would wager to guess even if you did it quickly it wouldn't go off, but slow and steady wins the race.

Just take out the decapping pin and resize normally. However, a very slow and gentle decapping works too.

Thanks for the good word... Initially I tried the routine of removing the decapping pin, but apparently the die resizes more consistently with the pin in. Some sized tighter than others, bullet seating was inconsistent. I will try decapping slowly, and I will make sure I am 10 km away from built up areas... :p

Thanks!

I've done this since day one and have never had any issues, and have only had very few not go bang afterwards.I use them in "plinkers",I hate to just toss them out but I would not use them in ammo that I was going to go on a grizzly hunt with, just sayin.
