I was on the verge of buying a S&W 460 and i saw at one of our dealer a blue S&W Model 29 44 mag 6.5 inch Harry Callahan... Dirty Harry... I could not believe it was there, unsold, the most charismatic revolver ever made.... I bought it.... This made my day... JP.

...I always remember it being an 8 3/8" barrel

just used some Google-fu and apparently both 6.5" and 8 3/8" were used, the 8 was more for the close up intimidating camera views :)

If it's the one at Epps, it got listed on the website this morning @ $1161.25... Glad you got it, pretty nice revolver eventhough I'm partial to the pre lock versions.

I like the 29/629 revolvers. Have versions in 3", 4" (2, one blue one nickel), and a sixties era 6.5". They are (to my hands) the best combination of portability and power available in a handgun.

On the site dedicated to the Dirty Harry movies mention is also made of a Model 25 being used for the ability to use four in one blanks in it, and I recall one guy who worked on the movie claiming a Model 57 was used in some scenes due to the scarcity of the 29. The movie really made the gun though, they were scarce before and ADH (after Dirty Harry) they were even harder to come by. 4" versions were a little easier, as most people would put half a box of ammo through them and give up on the recoil. One of my favorite wheel guns though. - dan
