Hi All!

Relatively two new tactical semi-auto rifle's out there that I am interested in purchasing, but I would like some more feedback aside from the limited info I am getting on the net. Has anyone had any experience with either of these two units, and any comments with the rifle's performance?

Which one would you choose, and why?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am new to the rifle market, so I have no idea what to get, but I do know that I would like it to be chambered to a 308...I have all the reloading equipment :-}

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

Well, this is a direct result of less time on the market, and less units in people's hands, but I have heard less "bad" things about the 542 than about the XCR-M.

Lordevilprepper seemed quite well satisfied with his 542 when I talked to him.

I also prefer the style of the 542, and we all know that looking cool is half the battle.

Exactly!
From holding both but shooting neither I felt the 542 was a lot nicer weight wise - solid but not heavy like the XCR feels. I tend to shoot big long milsurps so I'm ok with weight, but the XCR series feel heavy for their length.

Awesome...thanks everyone for the great info!

Yes I noticed the weight of the XCR was sure up there also...quite the tank! I did notice that the machining of the XCR was quite nice and had a great finish and end result. I have not seen or held the 542 yet as I cant find anyone that has one yet!!!! I was leaning towards the 542 as well mostly because of its background as well. There is a ton of stuff on the XCR and the "Company" on the internet, which made me a bit nervous...but I have heard that things have been cleaned up there.

Keep the great info coming guys...THANKS !

I am not the biggest fan of the xcr as I much prefer my rfb but I think its faire to point out that the new xcr with the keymod rail and lighter barrel ar supposed to feel alot more balanced.

Guys...What is the machining like on both units ??

From the pictures...It looks like the Robinson Arms has done a nicer job...but it is difficult to tell??

thanks

Give it time. The first batch from CSC arrived late winter, so there wasn't a lot of oppourtunities for people to get out and play with them. In the next month or so TI's imports should arrive and there will be another batch of people able to give feedback.

No doubt as more arrive there should be more feedback.
I'm just surprised no one has done a good test review with different ammo etc.. as far as shooting a service type gun in the cold....this is Canada!
:)

I can respect new owners who just want to enjoy their rifles in silence without posting about it online.

Ok from a famae 542 owner I purchased one .
This was the same deilema I was faced with after some study I found a few things
my is fully intended as a 200 yard and under deep timber elk rifle .
so my findings ,the big one weight ,I believe the sg 542 is about a pound lighter
the action and fail rate is must less . Dismantling of the 542 is great .
my rifle will get a new barrel for accuracy .
yes the mags are metal and big .
this does need to be fixed .i might take the mags and cut them back to 5 just for weight
so far it's been a nice rifle . I'm still developing loads for accuracy and brass reuse.

What are your average groups like with the stock barrel?

I like the 542, but accuracy is got to be at the rendez-vous, especially with all the aftermarket parts available for the m14 and all the other 308 offering, xcr-m, rfb, fn ar and they all seem to easily able to shoot 1.5 moa.

Also alberta tactical rifle is comming out with a 308 semi auto that is non restricted.

Its definitely getting interesting!

Hey All;

What would be your choice of optics on SG542 ?? So many out there, but what makes sence ?

thanks
