1600m back stop construction nearly complete. Back stops are roughed in at 1100, 1200, 1300 and 1600m. Bunker at 1000m will need a bit of work yet. The Longest mile is a new range that will hope to have 100m to 500m range and then a long range with multiple back stops out to 1000m and extending to 1600m.

This guy is posting all over the place with this garbage. And zero information beyond 'hurr durr - look what i am "building" hurr hurr'

South West of Edson Alberta. Check out Edson Fish and game website for updates. You can goggle Edson fish and Game and read up on the clubs struggle as this new range is the second location as the first one was not approved due to proximity to residents and did not get approved for development by the county...

Sorry as I am new and never used this site or posted before. Its ok 5 years ago lots of people said it will never happen. But five years later we are reasonable close to having something to use. If no more capital comes then 2015 it will have to be. If I knew how to post pics I would... I have a few construction pics. It may put the myth to rest... also i have a day job so I will post updates in the evening.

Ya where?

Going to have a butts system in place or just steel out to those distances?

sorry for my ignorance as I am not a big shooter... Butts system? The only system that we are looking at is a sheet of plywood and steel. We are planing to have a bunker at 1000m, with retractable targets on some kind of target holder...

That would be a Butts system then. :)

The Butts is a protected area to house target pullers for shooting events such as F-Class, Target Rifle among others. Usually includes cantilever or Vertical style target holders.

Sounds to me like another plinker range. Check out the RCMP Range Construction Manual for an Out Door Gallery Range. Why don't you all put target butts in? Then you just level some dirt at the firing points you want and you're in business. Who the hell wants to see another hill and lake every 100 meters deal. Sounds like Genesee all over again but father out.
Cheers

Electronic targets and the kit to run it all aren't any cheaper and not nearly as accurate as we'd like. We're fooling with them at Homestead. Great for a quarter chunk of wash tub at 900. Plus, who the hell want to piss with a friggin tablet in the sun all day. Keep it simple I say. What's going to happen when you got 50 shooters trying to figure what's up with the non-functioning system at the Prov's or other such affair. If electronics were that good; Raton, Phoenix, Scaremento, Camp Perry, Connuaght, Buttner would all have had them a long time ago.
Cheers

maybe you could get involved on one of their commitees;after all you are a well respected f class shooter.these folks may welcome your guidance with respect to building something like target butts.there are very few blueprints for actual target frames available anywhere.the rcmp construction manual is vague.help out so the sport grows instead of belittling something that takes extraordinary effort to even get started.

I spent 15 years chasing around north and central Alberta trying got get something started north of Homestead. I attended several club meetings at different locations, got onto the AFSS as an APRA full bore rep, and on and on but it just never seemed to go anywhere. From Ft Mac to Genesee to Smoky Lake to Provost to Czar to Wildwood. All of the locations I visited seemed happy with the berm and gong set-ups and were pretty much reluctant to shift the venues toward match style shooting. As a matter of fact, after expounding F Class to the northern shooters I ran into, very few showed any interest in Match Shooting, only one person ever came down and got involved. So you see 280, I just can't get that enthusiastic. After all, with the number of shooters around, there aren't that many that would shoot formal target rifle anyway, good range or bad. I believe what they'll do at Edson will be just what the local shooters want. No more no less.
Cheers

Norway seems to enjoy their electronic targets though... http://www.kongsberg-ts.no/en/index.php?pageID=28&newsid=17

Edit: Apparently it seems that they are trying it out in Canada too? http://electronictargetscanada.com/en/index.php

then you may be very happy to know we are putting in butts at rocky;hopefully ready for next spring to host our first match.the surest way to hook people into long range shooting is banging steel.then show the people what f class is and let them decide for themselves.we have a bunch of up and comers in the game from our local area who started out steel banging and now are ready for the next step.also there is a stirring from nose hill;which im hoping puts in a full palma.peace river also has some stirrings as now several competitive shooters live in the general vicinity.so cheer up,all is moving forward to progress the greatest shooting sport on the planet.
