The AR-15 is made non-restricted overnight, what changes happen?

I would prefer non-restrict by name. That would save a lot of re-barreling. Seriously though I would just borrow someone's upper to re-register the lowers.

Good plan, then you would be a criminal as soon as you put the short barrel upper back on that lower.
Smart, admit on an open forum that you would break the law first chance you got after a change in the law that worked in our favor just to save yourself the cost of a $250 barrel.
You wonder why it's so hard for us to make any headway fighting for our right to use an AR away from the range?

You guys are nuts. There should be no restricted firearms period.

They can register any firearms they want. But I should be able to buy any firearm i want with my pal.

No they cannot, it's unacceptable because you will cease to own every firearm you bought with your PAL. The PAL also need's to go because it's just yet another shopping list.

We should all be well aware that they have pissed away all trust to be had.

There needs to be some type of license to help screen people so criminals and people with psychological issues don't get to just walk in and buy an AR-15.
We need to stop worrying about the government knowing we have firearms in case they decide to take them away and just hope that some day they accept that 99.9% of us are responsible and can be trusted not to run out and shoot up a mall or a school. They will never be able to take firearms away from criminals so them taking them from responsible firearms owners won't affect crime rates at all.

While I agree with this sentiment, Registration leads to confiscation. FULL STOP.

I'll buy a DA 556 in a heartbeat if this happens. I personally like the 20" barrel AR's more than anything especially Vietnam style.

Its got to be the most popular restricted firearm to the Canadian public and so many of us are held back from owning something that shouldn't be classed any differently than a Mini-14. I crave an AR but I do not wish to tie myself to the governments leash just to own one.

Actually, requiring an RPAL and registration for "restricteds" but removing usage restrictions would be very appealing. Mind you, so would converting all prohibs to the 'new' restricted - hunting with an FN anyone?

That would still allow the travesty known as the firearms act to continue to exist. No. We must work towards complete deregulation, or the same dirty tricks will be used to disarm us in the future.

We must not give the antis an inch, unless you want to give a mile. Last time we gave an inch, look where it got us. There is NO COMPROMISE.

I see no problem with us "compromising" the way the antis "compromised" with us... Present a positive move as a reasonable compromise, make some incremental progress towards our goal, immediately start chipping away at what's left of C68 in exactly the same way the Liberals and PCs chipped away at our freedoms...

It speaks volumes for the character and good faith of the gun lobby (as opposed to the antis) that we seem to see compromises as long-term accords to be honoured as opposed to incremental and temporary steps towards complete victory.

More for the political statement than anything else I'd print myself a lower, and perhaps keep doing that as a birthday present for all of my friends. And perhaps it would be a good time to print off 80% lowers for freedom loving, non PAL holders to make even more of a statement and flood the country with an endless supply of them.

It would also be cool to get a .22LR conversion kit or dedicated .22LR upper to plink in the woods with for whenever one wants to save their .223 ammo. That would become the standard gun to train kids with!

This, death of a tyrant is easier accomplished by a 1000 cuts than a swift blow. As each measure is revoked and there is no blood in the streets, the anti lose.

Why wouldn't you just go get your RPAL then? You're being ridiculous, just go get it.
You're right, there is no reason you shouldn't own an AR. Get off your a$$ and make it happen.

I shouldn't have to. I have ZERO interest in pistols and revolvers. I shoot 99.9% of the time on crown land/privet land. And the only range accepting members with in a 45 minute drive is an indoor 20M range with 8 lanes and half of them are closed.

The day this happens, I will buy an AR without a second thought. Personally, I would like to see justices for the SA/CZ and HR incidents (never mind all of the other BS that has come about since 1993) before moving in another direction. Heck, let them tackle it all at once in a major shift that results in legal firearms ownership being decriminalized and people realizing that a firearm is a firearm is a firearm. We're licensed. We're safe. What's the problem?

Let's be honest here. Registration or not the RCMP will be at every pal holders address to seize firearms if that time comes. If the RCMP came to my door to take my firearms. I would give them my firearms. Why? Because my family is what's important to me. I'm not gonna go hide a few firearms. Get caught later then go to jail and leave my family to fend for themselves. Not happening. And I hope you would all do the same. Guns ARE NOT more important then your loved ones.

Agreed, guns are not more important then your loved ones. However, if they came to take your guns.... what are they coming for next?
When has blanket firearm confiscation not led to something more sinister?
Eventually the line has to be drawn.
Plus, we all know that Mike from Canmore bought all the NR's anyways.

I used to be like you, then I bought and AR15 and life became better. Several handguns followed and another AR15. Many of us would kill for a 45 minute drive to a range. The more RPALs floating around in the system is a good thing. It gives us an additional data point in policy. "changing this policy will affect 30,000 RPAL holder vs 100,000 RPAL holders"
