well as the tittle says I mite have located a abandoned bren carrier not too far from me from what I hear they cleaned the place up though it may not be there anymore and may have even been scrapped :puke: I will hopefully find out this weekend and if its not is the place it was I may have to go on a hunt as it had intact armor

I've thought about finding one of these for a resto.....let us know!

if I find it I will do everything in my power to get it and restore it my self it may need a parts machine(a cut up one) though as I doubt it will be in any working shape as its most likely been there for a long time(most likely been there since they were sold as surplus). where are you in Ontario

if its there(im really doubting it will be) it will be free although I mite have to pay to get it out as im going to need someone with a 4x4 and a car trailer with a heavy duty winch. btw if anyone knows where they may be one because of the high likely hood of it not being there id take anything with the armor intact and two tracks

Alot of stuff is made in reproduction for these, but there are a few different type carriers and some parts are unique. Best place to get more info is mapleleafup.net They have a section just for carrier owners. There are still alot of carriers out there, but values are rising. I have seen close to 60k for a perfect example. Usually under 5k for one needing everything replaced. Most the guys I know have a few each from parts to complete runners

Keep us updated

im one of those people who will never part something out until its completely scrap(im in the process of welding a 93 Cherokee back together) I figure if I get this one i will most likely need to find one that had its armor cut up. and yeah i was looking at prices last night and 60K up was for bren carriers and i found a Windsor carrier for 97k. one thing i do know the engine i will not have to worry too much flathead v8's are common enough(that is if you can find one without a unrepairable crack)

Friggin' things were in hordes of farm yards not so long ago. I believe Ontario Hydro, when it existed, bought a lot of 'em. Restoring any W.W. II vehicle isn't for the faint of pocket book though. I think the armour was removed form most of 'em too.

I can recall seeing numerous carriers around Nfld also; even my uncle had one on his farm. I recall he sold his back in the late 60's. I remember it under a tarp behind the barn. Thinking back on it, I believe it was all original, and it was working. Wish he'd kept it.

very common as surplus if you think about it they would have made a very decent farm vehicle and were most likely not all that much to buy back then

Yeah, my Uncle has one sitting on his farm in Quebec. They used it as a snowplow for years until it quit. Not sure if it has armour or not. Maybe I'll have a look this summer.

the engine is replaceable if I found one with a unrepairable cracked block(some cracks are repairable on the ford flathead v8's and some are not) id try to find a 2.3 ford pinto engine from the 80's and adapted it to the trans reason for this swap is its a common engine pulled from mustangs and in non turbocharged form it makes roughly the same power as a flathead v8. there is also numerous other engines that would fit the bill if you just want a driving bren carrier or until you can find a good flathead block.

I'd love to get it rolling again, but I have very limited time on his farm and we spend most of that shooting stuff.
Maybe I could get my brother on it.....

depending on how bad it is it could take a day or two to swap the engine or it could take years to fully restore down to every nut and bolt

btw if I do not find this one I may have to go on a road trip out west I remember someone saying they seen a few on a paintball field somewhere

dude outside Millarville south of Calgary had one on his paintball field/dad's farm, he used to run it in the Millarville Races parade
he was running one bogey without the rubber which made me cringe...

anyway seeing that I been watching some vids online to do with armor and this popped up
ww1 and ww2 equipment and tanks I wonder what kind of paper work would be involved to get these here
