Fixed 10 power scopes?

Hey all, I'm currently rethinking my precision rifle build and I was trying to plan out what would be a decent budget optic for it. I was wondering what fixed 10 power optics you guys can think of. I guess budget would be below 800$. I know there is the Bushnell fixed 10 power and then there is the SWFA SS scopes that we can't get in Canada to my knowledge. I also know on the high end there is the US optics 10 power. Obviously I am looking at something with a mildot based reticle. I guess another question about the Bushnell and SWFA scopes do these optics actually have a settable zero (such as a zero stop) or would I have mark down where it's zero'd at 100 yards?

Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

I'm just curious why your limiting yourself to a fixed 10 power when there are lots of variables in this price range that would likely do the job as well? Phil.

The current build I have has a 4-16 on it, which is doing well, but the fixed 10 power is something that interests me that I haven't seen a lot of. Also as mentioned if I do decide to go through with this and update my current rig, the majority of the money will be put towards a AICS, and I think most of the scopes at the lower price point scopes are all second focal plane, which I would like to stay away from.

This ^^^^

Why 10x only?

Maybe he's an old army-grunt... You know... KISS

From my point of view, with less moveable parts, there are less chances of something going wrong.
For the same $$, you'd think you'd get a 'nicer' scope with a fix power.

As far as 10x scope. My vote would go to the Sightron.
I have IOR 10x that I'm pretty happy with, but I've heard many horror stories about their customer service (or lack there of)

Falcon 10X can be had from places like Frontier, 300$, not overly enthrawled with them myself, but reasonable price.
Bushnell do two, the 3200 and the Tactical in 10X, I for one was less than impressed with them, but 350$ should put one at your door.
Hawke do a 10X, about 4-500$
Sightron does one for about 500$ give or take
IOR do 2 fixed 10s, I had their 10X56 (800$-ish), the glass was nice, loved the scope until the internal coating flaked, and yes, then the customer service garbage began. That was 10 years ago, and now I am thinking about one again.
Leupold do the Tactical ones (1800ish),
US Optics do one, lots of options on them too, I priced one up and it was 1800$ in no time.
KAPS do some fixed 10s, including two 'sniper' versions, but are 18-2200$ish
Schmidt & Bender PMII I think can still be ordered, it is the bee's knees, 1600$ish though, but really is the cream of the crop.

Shop around, the prices really vary, I have seen the IORs going from 700-1000+. Ebay will sometimes turn up old classics, there have been a lot of companies make fixed 10s, but not so many now. I use an S&B now, but for less than 1K I would look at the IOR 10X56, or try to check out a Hawke and Sightron, and see what their glass looks like.

No one has mentioned the Bausch & Lomb 10x Tactical scope. Long discontinued, but were high quality. 30mm maintube and 144moa of vertical adjustment.

A buddy has a B&L tactical on his VSSF .308 for many many years. Superbly reliable turrets, good optics with just a hint of distortion at the extreme edge of the FOV. Strong as an ox. No zero stop.
The bee's knees back in the '90's, but the last one I saw go on the EE went for $1200 ... a little steep in comparison to todays offerings, IMO.

My nearly 10 year old side parallax 10x Super Sniper(don't laugh ;))is also a good one. Heavy use and some abuse and still going strong. 1000 yard capable, tracks dead nuts every time, never a problem to date. No zero stop, but thats nothing a dot of whiteout against the end of the turret tower's zero hash line won't fix.

I like 10X for LR, lots of FOV for quick aquisition, adequate magnification for a tight hold, less trouble with mirage, and a simply constructed reliable optic with far less to go wrong than a variable in the same price range.

I guess that price point you should be able to find something with MilDot with Mil adjustment. Don't forget to keep that in mind, MilDot recticle is pretty much useless with MOA turrets unless you have a calculator and your math is strong :)

Thanks for all of the help guys, these are some scopes I did not even realize were out there. As I said up above, the majority of the reason for a fixed 10x scope is mostly nostalgic and like some have said, to keep it simple.

I would only add that ALOT, and I mean ALOT of companies have done 10X scopes even in the last 5-10 years. They aren't big sellers but they are out there, and a number of companies did both 'sporting' and 'tactical' 10Xs. Leupold, Khales, S&B, KAPS, Millet, Weaver, and on and on. Some were only briefly made, others like Leupold were available for years. A wide range show up on Ebay, Gunbroker, even CGN from time to time. If you keep an eye out it seems like most show up given time.

The Elite 3200 10x is my value buy but another all American offering is the now discontinued Burris XTR 10x with 30mm tube and 50mm Obj - it's a good scope.

The Elite 3200 10x is my value buy
A new (younger) shooter buddy from work, he bought himself a high end savage HB .308, the one with that primo HS precision stock. Mounted up an Elite 10x tac scope.
We went out with some match handloads .. arbitrary recipies that have proven provenance .. and .. I kid you's not ... he punched a bunch of 1/3 moa groups right out of the gate. Just like that. His first time behind a centerfire.
The scope, it tracked perfectly.

He went on from there to RMC. To become an Artillery Officer.

sightron fixed 10x.
clear glass, good clicks, can be had for 4 bills on ee sometimes.

only thing I don't like is where the paralax adjustment is (where power adjustment normally is)

I was going to mention it...... ;)

I had one back in the Mid 1990's........ bought from Mr. Wolverine for $950.00 plus taxes/shipping........... Excellent scope.....I competed out to 600 meters with it with good results in our Provincial Sniper matches and never felt limited by the fixed power..........I sold it off to a buddy and the A$$hole will not sell it back to me...... ;)

As a side note the U.S. Navy SEALs used the B&L 10X tactical scope on their M25 rifles.......

I had inquired about the Sightron S III 10x42 MMD awhile back, but didn't get any end-user reviews/opinions on here. Still interested in this optic

The bottom end IMO should be the Bushnell Elite series that was made in partnership with Bausch and Lomb.
Best to purchase something with an expectation of relatively long and uninterrupted usage, that will not pull the eyeballs right out of your sockets. lol

my two bits....
